Ieksie's Journal, 19 Jan 22

My weight is up with 400 gr this morning, having me at 83.8 kg. I blame the bread I had, because I was not satisfied after my dinner... It is very much a mental game for me... I went only 60 kcals over my budget for the day.

Haven't had alcohol since Sunday, which is a miracle, because I basically drink everyday.

I walked 2 km during my lunch break with 2 of my colleagues, which we do every day. I did not go for my 4 km walk after work, because I was just too tired. I managed 17000 steps yesterday though (I work for a production company, so I walk a lot).

It's currently pouring cats and dogs outside, so I don't think my day will be very active today.

It is normal to gain a bit when you eat carbs. It is not fat, it is water retention. If I have carbs my body bloat up like a puffer fish. You can try to drink more water, water moves water, or try and cut down on carbs a bit? Good one on the no-alcohol. We can do this xxxxx

I wish I could get steps in like you do. I'm desk bound during the day and when I get home at night I have to be mommy to a 4 year old so by the time he's in bed I'm usually too tired to do much. I'm sure the gain is only temporary and its also possible that its just some undigested food as well that's contributing to the higher number on the scale.

Thanks Coco... I don't usually have that much carbs. The bread was in the freezer, & I just wasn't satisfied with dinner last night. I don't know why. Maybe boredom. I will have to explore my feelings surrounding food a bit more.

@pinkpout, small changes help a lot. I walk to all the different departments when I want to talk to the people, instead of phoning. I also moved my water bottles from the bottom fridge at work to the top floor fridge. I also use the upstairs bathrooms, instead of downstairs, that way I also put in extra steps. And then every lunch time we walk around the block, which is just over 2 km's.

@leksie, I've upped mine to over 5000 a day on average now. Unfortunately our whole company is on one floor and I very seldom need to see anyone else (and I never really take a lunch break) lol But I'll have to sit down and see what kind of changes I can make to up the activity during the day now. Taking up yoga and tennis on the weekends now so that should help tons.

Great, I'm sure there is always some changes that can be made. One has to be willing to find them though.

@leksie I think you did GREAT. I think consistency is key. First off give yourself credit for ALL the things you DID do. 17000 steps is amazing. I know what your feet feel like after that. I am with you on the bread. Bread is my favourite thing in the world. In Afrikaans we say: "Brood maak GROOT" That's the problem for me. Bread is simply a sugar hit to the body. Your body craves it and feels so so satisfied after bread. But: "Dit maak GROOT"🤣🤣🤣 I think you're a ROCKSTAR Well done

@Richard, thank you. I always want to chastise myself for one wrong thing, but I never congratulate myself on the things I did do right. I should really start doing that more.

@Leksie I think "overweight" people like you and I are sometimes overweight because of mindset. We are always hard on ourselves and have been told all sorts of things that devalue us and change our perspective on whom we REALLY are. We celebrate with food and drink and eat and drink when we are sad or have failed or have missed the mark. Food and drink fills the gap left in our minds. If we can start seeing the real US. Then we don't need to be "filled". We will know that we have done our best. We will give ourselves all the credit we can for that. We will also realise that failing is part of trying. As long as we try we will probably fail somewhere. Just dont stop trying. Do it. Every day. Every morning is a new chance. Use it.

It is a lot of mind discipline, and although alcohol may not have too high calories, what it does do is spike your insulin, causing in some cases insulin resistance, which slows weight loss, thus you may find if you skip alcohol for 2 weeks you will lose more kgs, it's grind but worth it. Keep going 👏

@Dennis, yes, that makes a lot of sense, I never think of the insulin spikes it may cause. Wow, I just love all of this support & info... Thought I knew a lot, but it seems I still have a lot to learn.
