Kenna, I have a steroid question. Hogan is on Dexamethasone for inflammation. it's working great for now, but it's making him ravenous and I need to maintain his weight for surgery. is there a point of satiety or am I fighting a losing battle? probably going to buy green beans and add to his food. and yes, I recognize he's a dog and not a human. just curious.

Katsolo—- the only thing you can really do for an animal with prednisone hunger is to either switch meds, feed him a primarily low glycemic, vegetarian type meal and provide him with things to chew on. A low glycemic, vegetarian meal allows him to have increased volume. It’s hard because you can’t even explain it to the poor guy.

ugh, poor dude is soooo hungry. I have to police mealtimes so he doesn't push everyone else out of the way and eat their food. I'll buy some green beans tomorrow and add them to his food. I've been trying to walk him again, but he's still stumbling after a couple of blocks and I don't want him to get hurt. I can make some cauliflower rice, too. we're keeping him on this med because he's responding so well as far as pain and overall coordination until we can do the surgery. thanks!

thank you! I will try the oatmeal thing and some broth. I need to ask the vet about the sodium though as his breathing is quicker right now. the panting is a known side effect but I want to be careful.
