Heart attack on a plate. My grandfather had bacon for breakfast and a burger for lunch 5 days a week, which earned him a fatal heart attack when he was 50. Agree with Morticia that that looks disgusting.

not my thing, thankfully. I prefer my burgers to be pretty and well thought out.

Team smash for sure. My daughter and I split this - we skip the fries and get chips and guac, and save the guac for the burger. I don't have problems with cholesterol, so it doesn't equal "heart attack on a plate" - at least for me. (Funny story, the night before my last set of labs, I ate pizza. My total cholesterol was still under 120). Granted, this would be a total treat, and not an everyday thing.

Yea new science is not blaming cholesterol anymore. While it does correlates but seems like is not the cause of heart attacks. They’re starting to look into inflammation. Your body needs fats to produce cholesterol or you can eat cholesterol. It’s essential for testosterone production. Low cholesterol=low t

Makes me queasy just to look at...just not my thing! Some restaurant/fast food burgers I've seen on menus make me wonder if someone lost a bar bet 😜

SMH. Future statin poppers. You can pull back the curtain and inform people, but just like smokers know that cigarettes are killers, they will still imbibe anyway. It’s a slow but sure build up.

I guess that works for an OMAD approach.

Trackin64– this is actually not a great choice on any kind of a routine basis regardless of your WOE

@JB, this is an honest question: you do know the difference between familial hypercholesterolemia and non-familial hypercholesterolemia, don’t you? By all accounts that you’ve shared, it sounds like your GF and you have the familial type, and I get why this wouldn’t be a regular choice for you. Your liver makes excess cholesterol and you may be genetically prone to higher levels of endothelial inflammation; add in high triglycerides, and you have a recipe for a heart attack for sure. Now, let me back-track and say this should definately not be part of anyone’s “regular” diet, and people eat way to much of this garbage to begin with - but not everyone who eats a burger will develop high cholesterol.

This is why I shared the allegory of the pizza. I don’t have much of a problem with cholesterol/triglycerides. The last time I had them checked, my doctor said my HDL was excellent and my total was under 120. I never bothered with the exact numbers. I will also say, that there is a big difference between me, SM, and Little Mermee pounding a burger once or twice a month in the context of our diet and exercise versus the general population, or individuals who do have problems with cholesterol/heart disease/metabolic disorders. You’re talking to the wrong crowd.

On a side note, I actually do have problems with caffeine. I battled high blood pressure for years, until I cut back/eliminated coffee. I don’t get bent when I see people drinking coffee because I understand that not everyone has the same problem as I do.
