Today's meal: Quite a bit chicken served with baked sweet potato and stir fried greens coated in a spicy peanut sauce; roast vegetables, tomatoes and mixed salad. No dessert really, but made vanilla turmeric chai tea to close it off (I'm a little obsessed with this at the moment).

It's been a hectic week. Hiked up Table Mountain for the first time last week Saturday, and it got me hard - my whole body was in pain up and until yesterday. I somehow managed to get all my workouts in, even though they probably weren't as intense as usual. Proud of myself for sticking to it, though. 💪

I also had some personal epiphanies with regards to the way I view food. I realized that sometimes I still view food in a "diet mentality" instead of treating it as a lifestyle. As such, I'm trying to be more conscious of the way I view my meals. While losing weight, I followed a more low carb approach (though what I feel what really helped was IF/OMAD), because of that, I'm still iffy about carbs. Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against low carb/keto/etc, it worked for me to an extent and I'm forever grateful for that.

I just feel that right now, I (personally) need to stop seeing food/my meals as a break down of carbs, fats, and protein. I want to pick my foods for more than just maintaining weight, but for health, vitality, and longevity. I've found it so hard to shift my mindset from eating for weight loss to eating for health, because my weight has been such an issue for me for most of my life. It's funny how the journey never really ends, the scenery just changes.

Anyway, excuse this long babbling post! Have an awesome weekend everyone!! 😊

30 April 2019

Today was the first time I've tracked a meal in months. I just wanted to get a feel of what macros look like on meat-free day. I definitely eat more(volume) on my plant-based days than my "normal days", but today's total calories came in way under 1500 kcal. Though, I didn't take into account all the spices I used, because I'm lazy. Was a bit shocked at the carbs I'm taking in though 😱, but I took a moment to compose myself. And remind myself that I've been eating like this for a while without knowing it, and there weren't many (any) negative repercussions. And almost a quarter of the total carbs was just fiber. Also, today I made buckwheat flatbread/crepes to go with my meal which probably pushed things beyond the norm.

I'll probably track a non-meatless day as well, just to see where I'm at, but I don't plan to start tracking regularly again. It was becoming a bit of an obsession for me, which I felt wasn't healthy 😔. But not everyone is like me. Eating intuitively has just been a load off for me and has taught me that I can actually make good decisions when it comes to my food and health in general. But OBVIOUSLY do what works for you 😁.

Happy mini Friday y'all!! Enjoy the break

29 April 2019

Today's meal: Vegetable peanut stir-fry, baked Hubbard squash, beetroot & quinoa salad. And for dessert I just had fruit slices, peanuts, vegan chocolate (because shark week is lurking), and turmeric chai masala "latte". I'm felling full, but light at the same time. Love how this kind of eating makes my body feel 😍.

Weekend went well. Refeed day was probably the most controlled one I've had (so far) and I wasn't overstuffed, probably because I planned this one better. I've been monitoring how the refeed has affected my weight. As at today, no difference from my weigh in on Friday. I'll keep an eye on it for another day or 2, but I'm glad that a day of extra carbs doesn't have a disastrous effect on my body. Not that I'm going to start stuffing myself full of bread and such, but at least now I can stop being paranoid about enjoying a bit of sweet potato or quinoa here and there.

Hope everyone a great weekend and fab start to the week!!! 😉
