Big Boy Optimus's Journal, 11 Jul 15

Today is NOT my fast day but I had 2 cups of coffee during the day and before I knew it I only ate my 1st meal now at 6pm. No hunger pangs during the day whatsoever and time flew so quickly. I intended to eat some fast food today as sort of a cheat day but didn't even do that. I am amazed at how I have adapted and taken control of my appetite and hunger. I am going to spoil myself 2moro and have 2 pies from the Shell Select shop and maybe some other yummies :)

Always important to have a well deserved spoil...especially if its something you've been craving. You are rocking this.

That's the weird thing. . . I'm not craving it but I know I will enjoy eating it. lol. What we should always consider is that junk foods and fast foods shouldn't be our daily foods and we create our problems by daily consumption of such foods.

Gosh. That's good going. I've just started 5:2 - as you know ;) - and already I also feel, the morning after a fast in particular, that I can really just continue fasting! I'm wondering if it's mind-set that I know i can now EAT or whether it's a bio body thing.

Y002 I think the brain realizes that it doesn't need to ring the hunger bell because it has found stored energy(fat) that it can use up to fuel the body instead of demanding food whereas before it would ring that hunger bell and we'd eat food that it would use part of for energy and store a part of that food as more fat. If we keep eating and storing small amounts of fat then in time it adds up to us having a large amount of body fat. I think this is what's happening.

You are right Big Boy Optimus. The body definitely uses the fat stores and the longer you go between meals the more fat will be burned. This is why when doing 5:2 that one meal in a 24 period is recommended. Most 5:2 folks by limiting their calories are by default ingesting very few carbs. With stable blood sugar levels and being in a mild state of ketosis the appetite is blunted and you can go literally go a whole day without eating. Many people find that when they break their fast they feel that they have unleashed a monster in that they feel like they can't stop eating. This is due to the hormone ghrelin flooding the body. This is why it's important to have a plan in place as eating too many calories the next day can easily "undo" all the hard work. Fasting is great for improving insulin sensitivity and has numerous other health benefits :)
