Good morning FS friends

The slog continues. Still have moments of struggle with the whole concept of my old way of eating will not be an option now, soon or ever again. It is positively weird how the ultra processed foods get a grip on the brain and don't want to let go. There is no doubt that my body and brain feel much better when nourished with good wholesome foods. The mind is clearer, there is no bloat, the body moves more freely. And yet the craving for enriched white bread with peanut butter, or Cheetos or Cinnamon toast Crunch cereal still lurk in the background. Go away you nasty foodlike dopamine generating substances. Be gone. You don't serve me well.

Just goes to show you how these mega food corporations engineer their food like substances to be this way. As I recall, my entree into engineered food started when I was about 4yo in 1965 with Fruit Loops cereal. This cereal was a super treat on Saturday mornings whilst watching cartoons on the new B&W TV. In retrospect it was my parents way of being able to sleep in an extra hour on a Saturday as both worked full time and were normally up at the crack of dawn (or earlier). Otherwise normal breakfasts were always boiled eggs/toast or porridge. Kippers or bacon and eggs on the weekends.

And so the link to "treat" "reward" and "special" was born. Latched on to that one hard as treats continued to feed my addictive brain for the next 60 years. The junkier and more fat/sugar/carb laden the better. I find it irritating that the mega corps get away with this. Ever looked at a grocery flyer? Without exception, the bulk of the "on sale" stuff is junk. For those wondering what exactly ultra processed foods are? Read the label. If the ingredient list contains items that you can't stock in your kitchen for cooking, then that item is not food.

Climbing off the soapbox now.

Live and learn, grow and adapt, grieve and let go. Constant cycle.

My parents served mostly whole foods. I would get an occasional treat. Like dad would take me for an ice cream cone.
