Destiny's Daughter's Journal, 11 Jul 22

Week 6 begins, it can get a little overwhelming realizing I've still got 35kgs to lose but if I lose just 1 kg a week I could be in the 70s by Christmas :). I'm also trying to lose weight as slow as possible in order to minimize possible loose skin. All the big losers, 20kgs or more, what has been your experience with loose skin?
97.9 kg Lost so far: 5 kg.    Still to go: 35 kg.    Diet followed: Reasonably Well.

I think you only have to worry about loose skin if you were 150kgs and above. My partner has lost 45kgs from 110 with no loose skin

We are on the same level as i am also very worried abouy loose skin. I have about 50+ to go but i am just focused now on the smaller goal of getting under 100 and then i will put a new goal on FS. Don't look at the big number hehe

@Ndlela I hope you are right! Although I will take a bit of loose skin over being morbidly obese if it comes down to it

@bullybeefi absolutely, it's better to fool your mind by setting a 10 Kg weight loss target than a 30kgs weight target. But for me I love seeing the weight lost so far increase and the weight left to lose decrease per week. Lol man the things we have to do to fool our minds, it's such a mind game, weight loss is :-)

My highest weight was around the same as yours, and my current weight around 64kg and I don't have loose skin, but I do have pregnancy stretch marks and so. Do light exercise, take it slow, intermittent fasting helps, don't rush weight loss as that is when loose skin also tends to be greatest

@WaistAway87 wow that is so great to hear! You've lost so much weight already and I'm so happy for you! Thanks for letting me know, I am doing strength training as part of my weghtloss journey so I'm hopeful it will lead to the same results as you

Losing weight fast or slow won't make a difference in the amount of loose skin. It's how old you are and how big you got (how much the skin had to stretch). If you're fairly young, your skin will still have a lot of elasticity to bounce back into shape. In the meantime, just slather yourself daily with lotions and oils. It's more important to get the fat weight off sooner rather than later if you have health issues, like diabetes, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure. Not to mention that obesity raises health risks with Covid.

If or how much loose skin you have depends on genetics. In the past I've lost 35kg with no loose skin, whereas I've seen people lose 20kg with loose skin. How quickly or slowly you lose weight doesn't make a difference. Building muscle will also help to minimize the appearance of loose skin.

Thank you everyone for all your inputs. I guess I'll just have to walk the journey and see where I land. I will surely give feedback in 6 months time on loose skin or none

Hey dear. Ive lost about 25kg and I don't have lose skin. I think maybe it's cz I'm still big. However, I do take Collagen cz I heard it's good it's good with assisting with skin elasticity. I also exercise a few times a week to avoid having lose skin.

With regards to skin... Genetics play a big role. Unfortunately there's very little that can be done to improve skin. Surgery is often the only way. I myself have lost 35kg doing IF and calorie deficit, loose skin was also a big concern and is a question I get often. I'm fairly lucky as I have very little. But still, I wish I didn't have it at all. It motivates me to never go back to that size again.

Congrats Mandy, that's such a big accomplishment. Well I guess I'll take a bit of loose skin over huffing and puffing just to get to my car. I will try the collagen powder and I'm also doing strength training with weights so hopefully I'll have a great story to tell in 6 to 12 months.
