The Beezkneez's Journal, 13 Aug 20

Mornings all. I realize I'm a bit 'trollish' on the app. I owe you guys an update since I'm always throwing my 2cents into your diaries! Always posting all the wonderful summaries of nutrition advice and exercise I have learned on youtube and elsewhere. But is my progress indicative of everything I preach? Hardly! I stalled after a 5kg loss and knew I don't want to eat LESS than 1200cals nor do I want to attempt burning more calories by increased exercise as that may not be sustainable and therefore sabotage my goal. So, for the past two weeks I progressively ate more calories to maintain that loss before I diet again. When I say diet, I mean basic calorie restriction with healthy food choices ( high volume food that's low in calories because i enjoy eating). On Monday I intend to go back down to 1400cals to break the plateau. ( I aim for 1200 and overshoot by 200cals or so). Please feel free to comment, advice, motivate, criticize, participate in my diary. Thanks!

I agree. Anything less than 1200 is dangerous unless it is being monitored by a doctor for a specific reason. I aim for roughly 1400-1700 cal pd. That gives me loads of flexibility to work around and keep my diet balanced. I like to have a few extra here and there because I personally don't practice the "cheat day" thing. After years of negative self talk and dangerous habits around food, I choose to use positive words. I like "treats" - these may be chocolate (mostly) or hot chocolate, a white bread toastie once in a while or a second helping of something that is really tasty. That works better for me because I don't fixate anymore on a "cheat day" and what I'm going to shove in my face for 24 hrs straight. My on mantra is "if I bite it I write it". I would rather know the caloric value of something than dwell on an uninformed mental guilt of "ugh, I just ate so much!" We all have our own journeys and it's best to do what feels right for your own body, even if it takes a little while to find what works for you. Once it clicks, it clicks for life 🥊

Would love u to give ya advice but I got kicked off a keto n banting forum coz I am apparently rebellious n promote unhealthy advice lol... Safe advice to break any plateau is intermittent fasting, no snacking n if that fails, increase ur fasting window my friend. Hope it helps... 😉

Wow, only seen this post now, great advice given, if you don't mind me asking, what's your current deficit from maintenance and how long have you stuck to it?

@Ree1601 Hi, I feel it's too soon to say for sure what my maintenance is, but I did go to around 1800cal a day on average during the two weeks without gaining any weight. Some days were more and others less as I ate intuitively but logged religiously. Look, I'm also just learning and trying things out so I'm no authority. However, I did hear someone speak about how the 'amazing' human body, like everything else in nature, seeks homeostasis; to always bring itself back into balance. Google concepts like 'set point' as this helps us understand why weight lost comes back with a vengeance! IMO we need to not only lose weight, but at various intervals of weight loss ( say after 5kgs loss), reset that weight as our new normal before embarking on dieting again. I dunno!🤷🏽‍♂️ It's a slow and non 'sensational' process but it's what I'm hoping to do. So don't expect any short term fantastic losses from me. Good luck to you and please feel free to come contribute ideas and new things to my diary. ×××

Thank you Darsha and thanks Shereen. So chuffed that the two people I try to follow closely and look to for inspiration have responded on my diary!🤗 I like your style Shereen. Everything you say sounds so 'sustainable' ( do I sound like a politician now!?🤣🤣🤣) and Dharsha your results speak for themselves. Please keep posting so I learn from you both and best wishes too!
