So I've bought a smart scale and the information is doing my head a bit. I guess it will make more sense once I've done it for a bit longer. What's confusing me is that I seem to have quite low fat percentage, above average skeletal muscle, high muscle mass, dense bones (which I think is probably good for women getting older) but also an older metabolic age? surely more muscle and less fat should improve metabolic age? any tips welcome.

That all seems like a great review from my perspective. 👌🏾I would believe the scale but don’t let it confuse you too much. Think about what is important to you and what are your priorities for your body. Does it matter that your metabolic age is older? I would say nope - especially if You have good muscle and body fat percentages that allow your body to function at its best.

This is true. I got the scale because I suspected a slowing of weight loss was due to building muscle so wanted to keep an eye on more developments which will only be understandable overtime. But of course I want to know all the things...now.🤭 I think the metabolic age thing might be because my BMI is still quite high though just crossed into 'normal' range. Learning new things...also repeat on the patience lesson. Thanks.

I think the metabolic age is linked to the bmi reading. I also have one of these and love it..especially when you can start comparing the readings. It motivating to see my bmi and fat % come down as my weight does.

Excuse my ignorance, but how does a scale measure your body fat, muscle mass, bone density etc? I didn't know such a smart scale existed! Sounds very interesting.

It works by sending a small electric current up your one leg and down the other which measures resistance. Fat, muscle and bone have different densities. I also thought it's a bit 'snake oil' at first but it's more info to compare on the journey so I'll see how much I put faith in it depending on how logical the readings seem compared with activities. As MaybePalesa points out we should be careful how much 'weight' 🤔we put on any one measurement alone. I'm hoping this will just add to a more wholistic picture.

Hi, I also bought one and then it went to my head so bad. I then decided to go to a dietician and found that her scale and mine was completely different. so mine ended up being very inaccurate

I love mine. It has really helped me understand "good" weight loss, and helped me focus on getting enough protein. When I see that I haven't lost much, but I've gained a half kg muscle mass, it's encouraging. And it is super cool seeing my metabolic age slowly coming down.

i have been working with my tanita bodyscanner for years. i see you mentioned that you just entered the normal range - so as soon as you reach the more athletic range - your metablic age will come down - that is high muscle & low fat versus activity level also plays a role! hope it helps
