Good morning FS friends

Not sure what is going on, but yesterday was just not a day where I ate in a way that will promote health and wellness. It started out fine enough. Chopped veggies to make a slow cooker cabbage soup (love hot soups on cold rainy days), then thought that I'd clean out a freezer to make room for the cabbage soup portions that will be frozen. That's where things started to derail.

So my regular visitor has foods here that are not part of my plan and I'm pretty diligent about bypassing them 99% of the time. In the process of cleaning out, found the remains of a loaf of Italian bread crusts and end pieces. Put them on the counter to donate to the raccoons later in the day. A few hours later, they looked pretty good so grabbed some peanut butter and ate some of them. Then that voice in my head (shut up already) started eyeballing the 4yo box of pierogies. Should I have turfed it? Absolutely. Nope, you guessed it. Turned on the oven and baked them, then ate them all. Were any of these things horrible in and of themselves? No. Just too much, too many, freezer burnt and the worst of it, I wasn't really hungry. Totally reverted to old habits.

The thing is, that this morning when updating my intake log, I thought I wouldn't include these items, then thought, who am I kidding? Just because I don't log it, doesn't mean I didn't ingest it. The log is my accountability tool. Cannot run, cannot hide.

Today is a new day. Yesterday is now in the rearview. An opportunity to make better choices. And so I will.

All I can think is that this cold damp gloomy weather is getting me down and carbs are my coping mechanism. No excuse though. Need to find better coping strategies going forward.

ROFLMBO!!!!!!!!!!!! So you basically had a day where you turned into a raccoon, aka trash panda. LOL. Been there, done that, and I'm sure most of us have. I always log the days where I eat my weight in junk food/fast food. The days when I have to eat at someplace like BK and I practice saying, "I'll have a grilled chicken salad with the low cal dressing." But what comes out of my mouth is, "I'll have a Triple Whopper and do you have anything larger than a large fry? Like a 3XL or something???? And a Diet Coke - I'm watching my weight!" Sure, you are. It reminds me of when I used to smoke and ran out of ciggies and would surf through the ashtray seeking a nice used stinky butt. Ugh. LOL. It's actually what broke me of smoking. Totally gross!!! I wonder what it would take to stop me from eating garbage.

Morticia, you crack me up. Your commentary is both reassuring and uplifting. Thanks for that! As to what might help you....that book I'm reading about ultra high processed food. Scary stuff. If I've learned anything from it, on the stuff I screwed up on yesterday, not a single one was UHP. Limited ingredients and the rule of thumb according to the book, if ingredients are not things that you could stock in your kitchen, then it is not really food. So I take comfort in that my thinking is changing. Now to control food impulses....

That was a funny read, but not a very fun struggle, I feel you, we all have those days! I read and listened to the Glucose Goddess the past 2 months and believe me, her little hacks have changed a lot of things for me. Her original book is The Glucose Revolution and The Glucose Goddess Method or something like that, is about her hacks. I listened to the audio version and now have the book. She's been in many interviews on youtube as well. Morticia lol you just reminded me of Miranda in Sex n the City eating her home baked cake out of the garbage can 🤣 and those cigarette butts hahahah they had a special little something. My Mom put them out especially long just for that lol You guys are a lotta fun ❤️🌹

Hey K8, Thanks for the book recommendations. I will put them on my Libby library consortium list. I'm bound and determined to learn as much as I can about how I got to this point in my life and why my trigger foods are what they are.
