Asarver's Journal, 24 Jan 15

I feel fat this week. I've been exercising and as a result, I guess it makes me hungrier. Which, after eating dinner and still feeling like I'm starving, of course I'm gonna feel fat.

I've also been weighing myself periodically throughout the week (bad me, because I know it contributes to me feeling fat...), and it looks like I've gained weight this week. I won't actually weigh in until tomorrow though, but I need something to stop me from weighing randomly throughout the week.

I don't understand why! I've been eating normal amounts of food, exercising. Maybe TOM is coming? That could explain the extra hunger and the feeling of fatness. I guess we'll find out in a few days.

So, one of the things that comes along with dieting / healthy eating is the fear/stress I feel when I get invited to go out to eat with people. I feel like there are no healthy choices, and all I can think about it calories and if I'll have enough, or how I can compensate for it later in the day. Today is one of my husband's last days in town, so we're going to meet at a brewery. I've been stressing out about it since last night, because who knows what they will have for food choices. I'd rather just not go (that's how bad I worry about this stuff), but I feel like it would be kind of rude. Any suggestions for how other people deal with this?

I just pick whatever protein I want and makes sure I order veggies as my side. if everyone is doing apps, order a salad to eat while they are eating. the best you can do is stay away from the carbs. theres always an ok choice that you can feel ok about... unless your going to do Italian - then you're kind of screwed. even if you order a burger, you can lose the bun. they are your choices and if they love and respect you - you shouldn't feel bad about it. its more in your head than theirs. good luck!

Italian usually has healthy choices, eggplant parmesan, other veggie and fish and veal dishes.

I have a similar invite this week. Happily, the restaurant/brewery has a on-line menu. It's not nearly as intimidating if you've already been able to eliminate most bad choices. Grilled protein is always a good choice, and most places have veggie sides, or salad. Salad can work, but make sure to ask for dressing on the side, and ask for a vinegar-based one. Restaurants really like to dump 3X the normal amount on there! My key is to figure out what my options are in advance. Maybe the place you're going to has a menu on-line as well!

So, luckfully I ended up not going since my husband's friend wasn't bringing his girlfriend, so no pressure!! Thank you guys for the suggestions though! They will come in handy the next time I go out to eat :D

Greetings! It is pretty easy to go to a protein source and vegetables - even at a burger joint you can eat the beef without the bun and have a side salad. Not as fun as fries but way better for us!

Usually the brewery restaurants have some healthy choices.

When I go out I usually just get wings (hold the fries). I'm a Paleo guy so that works well enough for me. The other option that all pubs have is a garden salad and add grilled chicken. Balsamic dressing. Green tea and club soda help if you are worried about being still hungry...

I try to go for the grilled protein, but some stuff sounds weird. I'd like to get a salad with chicken, or order my burger without the bun but I feel weird. You're like the person that people stare at funny and start making comments about you dieting, or watching your food and I hate it. Going out to eat with people is just so stressful, I just like to completely avoid it at all costs. :/
