Espeecee's Journal, 03 Feb 19

Good morning all! I hope everyone has had a great weekend. So... I'm gonna have a mini rant here. Starting with a question to you; Does anyone else get sick of the "You've lost so much weight" * insert look of shock horror* or "it's enough now" "don't lose any more weight, you'll be skin and bones" etc? Hello!!! I'm still overweight.. Sure I'm not "obese" anymore but I am overweight. And then on top of that I'm apparently starving myself because I do intermittent fasting and count calories. Firstly even if I wasn't doing IF I'd still be eating about the same amount of calories spread out throughout the day. Now I just consume my calories within a certain window of time. Explaining the science of fasting doesn't even seem to make a difference. They understand for a moment and then after a while will say things supposedly in passing like "oh no I can't starve myself". I'm like who's starving? And then they backpedal and say" oh I didn't mean you". Then who did you mean? It's obvious you're trying to drop hints. I mean I get that as family or close friends they've always known me to be overweight so it's strange but come on! . Only 3 of 8 have showed support and excitement for me. For the other 5 it's either those comments or to not say much but their silence is also speaking. If they're truly honest with themselves they'd come to realize that if I was just a work colleague or friend they'd probably have been talking about how big I am. Why can't she do something about her weight... It's not healthy etc. Another thing is people act like they saw me 2 months ago and now I'm a stick. As I've said before, my heightest weight was 115kg which I'd carried for a few years. If I lost 5kg it wasn't noticable cause I was so big anyway, but now every other kg makes a difference. It's taken almost exactly 4 years to lose 30+kg. This didn't happen overnight so let's not act like I starved myself for 2 months and lost it all. Well you can't win 'em all I guess. All I know is I'm doing it for myself and my health. If they can't get behind that its not my problem. It's theirs. Honestly I'm not even shocked. I've watched enough YouTube videos to know it was bound to happen but that doesn't make it any easier to bear. It just gets frustrating having to defend my weight loss or actions. Ok. I'm done now 😂

Somebody spoke about this a few months ago. People like to see you succeed but not do better than them. Women can be unreal eh. You just continue with your journey and take no notice. Congrats on your excellent weight loss thus far. Keep it up!

Thanks for the support all. I just had to get it off my chest.

@LCFF so true. There are so many possible reasons behind people's actions or comments. For some, they want you to remain the fat friend so they can keep all the attention. For others, it's because they've tried and failed at weight loss. But we've all been there I think. I've lost and gained too many times to count. Instead of being supportive and trying to learn how they can use your tools to also succeed, it's better to put you down. Thanks. I'll definitely do my best to keep it up. I've come too far. I'm just going to keep pushing on and paying no mind.

I share your frustration. If I have to hear one more time that: "shame you must be in a lot of pain to have lost so much weight" I'm going to scream. It took me a year to get there not overnight! Hang in there. Well done for your achievement.

You are awesome. To have stayed on this journey for 4 years shows exactly how committed you are to taking responsibility for your health. Anyone who cannot celebrate this with you needs to take a long look at themselves to understand why they cannot be happy for you. You will probably find that your outlook on life has changed on this journey as well, and they do not know how to be around a happier, more confident you.

They all stuffing jealous because they are fat and lazy. If you feel good about yourself then that is all that counts. Revel in your success. Well done and tell the jealous crowds to shut up 🤐

Ignore people who have never had to lose a lot of weight. They think they know it all which is far from the truth. Thanks for sharing, and keep doing what is working for you :)

They're jealous. Tell them to FO and keep their nose out of your business :)

Such a pity to have people whom you would hope would share the joy of your weight loss be critical instead ... I can totally understand the frustration because what you have achieved came with lots of hard work and emotional toil... it is true, someone who has never had to loose a lot of weight will not understand what it takes and can therefore not appreciate your achievement. Well done to you for staying on the journey and keep going... I am so encouraged by you.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

@YoliesP Well done to you too. Yes it can be so frustrating to hear such things. I just don't understand some people's inability to grasp how it's a good thing. Keep it up.

@JS MysMan Thank you😁 You're so right. There have to be underlying factors. Not everyone likes change. Especially huge changes. When a person changes an aspect of their lives drastically people begin to wonder how this will effect the relationship. Its easier for you to stay the same rather than for them to adapt to the new situation. I've heard people say that they did have a positive change in attitude, confidence, demeanour etc. Not sure I'm there yet .

@debbieskops Thanks 😂😂 I had a good laugh reading your response. Oh! If only it were that simple. The negative ones are actually mostly average sized and in good health. I have been tempted to tell them to shut up but there are certain bridges I can't burn. As for the rest, I may very well tell them. I do feel good about myself. I need to let that feeling override the negativity. At the end of the day I know what I want and I'm doing something about it.

@Juanita Christians I totally get that! I'm just going to try to hold my tongue for now, rather than say something that I'll regret later.

@lee_za Thank you. Yes its best to ignore them. All of the sudden everyone is a dietician 😂 😌 Some people just don't understand and so they can't appreciate your struggle. I will, as you said, keep doing what's working for me

@Msalicat1 🤣🤣 Yes, I think some of them are jealous. I get that cause I've been there. But why can't they be jealous in silence 😂

@MariaManoto It's quite a sad state. Like you said it's hard work and they don't understand. Neither are they trying to understand. The "eat less, move more" mentality has made what can be a very difficult journey seem like a simple formula to those that never had to try using it; Its not easy and there can be many pitfalls along the way. So they don't understand how belittling, being critical of, or not acknowledging the achievement is such a blow. Its not going to deter me at all. Onwards and upwards! Thanks for your words of encouragement and likewise I'm glad you're encouraged by me.

Agree. And I get so annoyed cause they way the asking it’s like something is medically not right with you especially when they see that you eating right and working out. But I learnt not to respond to the criticism, keep pushing your goal.
