NikNakNoNo's Journal, 27 Dec 18

I will be honest, this is disappointing. I expected some downward movement. I have not lost after a month on FatSecret, which tells me my overall average needs to come down. I know it's too high (at average 1900cal per day if I calculate the last 4 weeks) but was expecting SOMETHING because I excercise a lot.

On the positive side my eating balance during the day is back on track which makes me feel great during the day. My relationship with food is really healthy.

It took me a year on Noom to lose 7kg. It's similar to FatSecret, with the addition of informative and motivating articles. And the personal coach added some value but she didn't get to know me, or seem to have a record of my history. The food logging on FatSecret is 100% better and I like the active community. This solution (and superior reporting capability) works brilliantly for me, so it's not the app

OK so I lost the 7 over 2018 and now have 3kg to go. I clearly don't mind losing weight slowly (must be my maturity 😁) but wow, I feel like I should have just tucked into those Christmas cookies!

I hate feeling like I am on diet. But I have to lower my intake. aaark!! 🙄😖

67 kg Lost so far: 0.1 kg.    Still to go: 2 kg.    Diet followed: Reasonably Well.

I'm assuming you're female? If so, I'd go down to 1 400. Fat Secret's calorie recommendation is not great at all.

I eat around 1300-1500 (some days in the 1600s) and that works for me with IF 16:8 (most days) - It works better for me than any other plan I've tried... I also find it's more than enough food if I load up on protein and green stuff. Its also the only time I haven't felt like I'm on diet because I control the plan, the plan doesn't control me 👊😘 Strongs!

@Richard. I think you are right. Noom said I should be on 1200, while FatSecret was happy with 1700 for me. OK, new plan - thanks for the tip.

@Shareen ... have read so much about IF here, I think I should try it. I have been such a stickler for breakfasts all my life - so perhaps its the dinners which need to be canned. Will require some planning. thanks for the feedback.

It's all about what the calories are made of too. So if you eat 1900 calories of good healthy veg, good quality protein and even good fats.. it is easier to shake the weight. vs if you had the same 1900 calories but it was maybe chocolates, donuts, mostly take-aways and snacks. ps. Don't trust these "health bars" If you do the research, some of them have all kinds of different sugars in or chocolates and sometimes caramel to make them sweet. Doesn't mean it's healthy if it's in the "Health food section"

@MScotten. i had to look up Omad! I am getting around to thinking about IF (see , I even know the lingo) due to this group. so baby steps. I have a Samsung and use the App every day with my GearFit to record excercise. BUT HELP! how do I get calories/food logging from FatSecret to sync - ie move that data to the Samsung App? it says they can sync, and I have given access, but no go. If you got this right please get back to me. txs.

I agree with Richard. I only managed to maintain my weight on the 1700 calories per day recommended by fat secret. I then calculated the number of calories I used take per day when I was doing the Weigh Less diet and losing weight. It came to between 1250 and 1300. If you take low GI food and space it well during the day, you will not go hungry and your chances of losing weight when restricting yourself to that amount of calories are much bigger.

A good way to keep down the calories... is chia seeds (it's a superfood.. helps with filling you up good too. They swell 10x in most liquids). If you drink any juice or halfwater/halfjuice.. throw in 2 teaspoons of chia and let it sit for 10min-30min in the fridge. or you can even throw it in your cereal or mix in with yogurt. This way it keeps you full and not snack on things you don't really want to. (keep a mini container closeby.. or if you don't have anything else... fill an empty pill bottle full of chia seeds, incase you want to use it at work or at restaurant). {I know people that eats yogurt,chia and mixed fruits every morning}
