It’s quite the challenge when you are trying to lose weight and eating healthy but you gain weight instead because... I’ve been getting my sugar under control (I’m diabetic type 1) but now there has been numerous times where I injected too much and my sugar drops too low then I eat something sugary to get it up .. so now I’ve gained 2kg but it could also be my training as I build muscle around my shoulders and arms very quickly 🙈😩🤦‍♀️ I just had to share my frustration haha 😆

It is disheartening. Ditch the scale for now and start measuring yourself. Also have you tried a dietitian to help with food options whilst managing your diabetes?

I'm also diabetic. changed to a lowcarb lifestyle and lost 37kg since September 2017. We drink tee with lots of milk and 1 teespoon sugar when we go to low. No weight gain and less medication with levels of 5 every morning. changed my life for the possitive and feeling wonderfull. wishing you all the best with your journey and hope my story help to inspire you a bit.

Thank you for the advice :) I do eat super healthy though.. it’s only when my sugar drops that I freak out coz I feel like fainting haha .. but I try drink a sip or two of juice and wait but a few times it dropped so low that my reader just says LO and that’s dangerously low .. but overall my sugar is mostly between 5 and 8 but i will definitely try to have the tea with milk and sugar.. to get it up when it’s too low thank you 😊

Hey Ang, I’ve been type 1 for over 20 years. Try a banana before exercise and a high-protein snack 15 minutes after exercise. If you are reading LO - you are obviously not very sensitive to feeling it. So test before and after exercise and an hour later. You can die from your hypo and a LO usually indicates dropping below 1.5 which is deadly.

My sugar goes low mostly at night while I sleep which is scary ... I do wake up though but not all the time.. it happened so often that I started setting alarms to wake me up every hour but I know if your sugar goes low it’s very dangerous that’s why when it’s so low I just chomp down sugary things .. it’s getting better though I will have a healthy snack before bed then it’s normally better and then I still get a good reading of between 4,5 and 6 before breakfast. I appreciate everyone’s comments, it’s always nice to get advice and support 💕

Hi Angie. Maybe time for a visit to the dr to reassess your medication. I had to take less because I started eating much less carbs. It is life threatening to hypo and you getting LO readings is really concerning to me. I drink half a glass of milk or eat a few tablespoons of yogurt before bedtime. Keeps my levels good. The concern with eating sugary food to get the levels up is that it will spike and then drop again very quickly. You also need to eat something that will keep the levels stable like a protien snack as suggested by Carla. I can give advise out of personal experience but all of us are different and your dr will have the best advise for your spesific needs, please.
