Well I got the last of the infamous Christmas dishes mailed to my daughter for her first Christmas in MUSKEGON, Mi. I told myself I would stop when the postage hit $ 500.00 and It did. None of the wine, water, champagne glasses made the cut, but the rest did thank goodness. That torch has passed. She now has 32 place settings. She has had her setting for 16 since I bought them 20 years ago. Now she has them all. Her husband has a good sized family so they will seriously get used. It actually feels good to give her some of the stuff I have and see her have fun with it while I am still alive and can enjoy the show. Too bad we live so far apart. I doubt that I will ever go to Muskegon in the cold of winter.

I can relate. My son moved away and we gave him a 6 room house full of furniture and household goods. He ended up moving really far away and brought most of it back before he left to live in a tiny apartment in the city. I would have loved him having all of the keepsakes but, in general, men aren't interested. I will probably sell mine at some point and live the good life. LOL.

What a precious gift! I'm sure she will treasure them!! I have my mom's china that was given to her by her mom in Germany. I have 3 granddaughters who have the minimalist attitude and do not want all my treasures from Germany. I find that so sad!

Kids today live in a much more mobile society. They don’t want heavy furniture or “antique” dishes— my poor son in law has has moved those Christmas dishes (7 huge Rubbermaid containers) at least 4 times. But the dishes are beautiful, not old style looking at all she told me last night that she is doing Christmas dinner and there will be 17 for dinner. She is really excited now.

Diana they may not want all of it, but some as a memory. I am of that minimalist mindset. I don’t want stuff, but a few pieces are wonderful. Same memory without the clutter. The tradition lives on, just revised
