I know there are many here on FS who have indicated that they don’t watch the news but I you are one of those you might want to reconsider. Last night I caught a segment where the person being interviewed was issuing a dire warning for what is coming as we move into 2023-25 and beyond. He said a pound of hamburger could reach 58$ a pound, if you can buy it at all. Fruits and vegetables will fair no better, nor chicken. The cost of all FOOD and energy sectors will escalate. Another segment this morning talked about the condition for Europeans, even worse than for us here in the USA. Don’t bury your head in the sand. Talk about it. Dieting may no longer be a problem. This part Russian War driven, partially drought, partially Covid —- people no longer wanting to work. Businesses closing right and left, housing market is slipping. There is no bank financing. These are going to be tough times. Just sayin

The problem is, the news, etc, just says “it’s broken” over and over and over, without any direction to fix it. Except “If you would just give up your freedom, everything would be just fine.”

This is a very complicated issue that has many contributing factors. Regardless, we are all going to be drastically affected. We, the people, and our behaviors are also a big part of this.

Lack of planning and awareness contributes to what's coming. The government expects me to join the handout line because my cows fart. But China is allowed to buy up huge tracks of prime agricultural land that just happen to be next to military bases. We've lost $25,000 in the last 2 weeks. It's just not businesses going under, it's ranches and farms!

Certainly anyone who has a backyard with dirt might consider planting— things like zucchini produce so prolifically you could feed your whole family. I would also recommend stockpiling dried beans and rice. Cheap and full of nutrition. Keto eaters/vegans might consider how strong their commitment is to their way of eating is and make a “what if” plan. I don’t normally eat vegetables out of a can, but they are probably really edible for several years after the expiration date.consider getting rid of your clothes that are 20 years old and replace them with foods to store. Also you might consider reading up a bit on being a “prepped” and just do what you can or what you think is feasible for your family and all the other people that you might be supporting in an insecure food world. Many people in my world are digging up flower beds with the intent of replacing with edibles.

One of the other issues ( of the dozens of issues we could talk about) has to do with understanding the history of the United States post WWI, the depression, the DUST Bowl, WWII , the movement of people from rural farm life to urban living, the dramatic impact of the birth of the baby boomers, pesticides, GMF to increase food production for a rapidly increasing population. The effect of more efficient transportation of foods and services. So many people complain that schools don’t teach us anything—- but do you as parents see to it that your kids and you, together, watch some of the greatest stories told about these subjects by Ken Burns, The History Channel, National Geographic. It’s all out there for the asking. When you read about these things you can actually begin to see into the future and what the eventual outcome might be. Of course at the time people were oblivious, as we are now, and couldn’t see the potential outcome. And look at the huge changes in our world during all this time. Technology, medicine, everything.

There are many issues facing our country. The US has and is heads and shoulders above other nations in addressing climate issues. Yet other nations, China, Russia and India are not being held to the same standards or any standard. Ranchers are looking at carbon sequestration and strategic grazing to improve climate issues. If people want to eat only plants, that's fine. I happen enjoy meat. Everything in moderation. Erquiaga makes valid points. Look at Venezuela for a modern day history lesson on well socialism works.

This certainly about climate change and the consequences but a huge part of world wide problems is related to war issues and and Russians stranglehold on the world with energy threats and of course his daily threat of using nucs — which I think he will do. He is sick both physically and mentally and has absolutely nothing to loose. We have become way too dependent on unfriendly, untrustworthy , morally decrepit nations to provide us with many of our basic needs.
