"Great things are done by a series of small things brought together."
- Vincent Van Gogh

This is so very applicable to problem of weight loss and maintenance. It is not about giving up all the things that you enjoy eating or that help get your day off to a pleasant start, but rather about making compromises. One piece of toast instead of two, 2 slices of bacon instead of 4, an 8 ounce can of coke instead of a 12-16 oz. same meals, same enjoyment, just less. Small changes made consistently over time can yield big returns, ones that you can learn to live with. You might even find that you appreciate your food and enjoy it even more when you are mindfully eating.

Wise words and one worth following. However, I have come to realize that for me food have a lot of other functions than having favourites... I like quantities.... I like to eat lots at all time of the day... I like eat when I am stressed.... I like to eat when I feel good.... Probably bad psychological things that I have slowly picked up over the years ... I guess it still means that watching food is important... but I also need to occupy my live with things where food is not involved... being outdoors is a big one for me these days.. Anyways thanks for the encouragement

It’s about being in control. Are you or food in control? I have cut back what I eat, and eliminated other things. Take potato chips. For me, a family size bag was a snack. I love potato chips. But they were killing me! So I started eating actual snack size bags at lunch, now I don’t eat any. But if there is a picnic or a bbq I will eat them and enjoy them. I am not letting them dictate what eat and when, I decide. Does any of this make sense?

Daddy Manatee— in any food setting it is always a choice of the individual being in control. But you can learn to decide to not stuff yourself just because it is there. FREE FOOD at your place of employment does not mean that you stuff yourself because it is FREE. It is not free— there is a physical and psychological cost to you. Soooo many people here on FS swear they have no control once they take one bite of something, and I have to accept that as true and I think a few are getting help for that, but for those who still have the ability to stay in control it is the way to go. Deprivation does not work and guilt does not work. I applaud you for your progress.
