Kenna Morton's Journal, 28 Jan 22

So many of my friends are recovering from Omicron, thankfully, but also just enough to whine and complain. So I am the only one that isn’t sick I have been appointed chef. So today I made soup for everyone— clam chowder, tomato bisque and especially for my Jewish friends, chicken noodle. I said don’t even lay Kosher on me. Fat secret indicates 600-700 calories for six hours of cooking. But, I bet I ate that many calories just tasting and seasoning. I also told my motley crew that I didn’t want to see any bon-bons or champagne on their shopping lists. My turn will come some day without a doubt, but I am just so grateful this group has done so well despite most of them having diabesity. Trying to manage my sister’s ailments and helping some of these gals with their insulin and electrolytes when they haven’t been getting support from their medical community has certainly challenged me. Hang in there everyone. Stay on your weight loss journey— continue to work at being healthier.

I know exactly what you mean. I watched diabetes slowly kill my mother. And that's why when my doctor said I must go on insulin...I walked out, started my own research, and discovered the keto way of life. I was so ilk from uncontrollable diabetes, and I felt as if I would die any day. But keto turned it all around. I went from 225 pounds to 145, came off all meds, and felt alive & healthy again. I've helped many people since then with lots of success stories. So many people are victims of bad eating, bad food like substances, sugars. But if I can help even 1 person, then I feel it's a win.

What I want to know and totally don’t get is WHY people who have seen their families die of obesity and diabetes follow into that same trap and end up just like their dead or dying parent. Baffles me.

If I were a depressed person the last thing I would want to do is bury myself with life changing issues that you totally can control. I am watching my friends slowly, painfully dying because of what they do or do not eat and their refusal to do even the minimal required exercise.I feel bad, but after years of supporting, encouraging and giving atta boys, I quit doing it. Next I’m going to just offer them another doughnut and a bigger shovel with which to dig that grave a little bigger.

For some reason I just am never happy with how chicken noodle turns out so I typically don’t make it often. My two Jewish friends in particular were happy with it anyway. There really are medicinal properties to soup.I think. Certainly a comfort food. I am just happy they are doing ok.
