Had my fitness consultation at the new gym. I was very lucky in that the trainer was older and could relate to an old gym rat like me ! This week I have booked for spin on the new fangled bikes, TRX with the coach ( never done that) and Body Pump and Body Balance. Never done them either. Too much?!!

I had to google TRX - looks like fun! The other classes sound great too and I'd want to try them all too so not too much, no. Enjoy it Anne!!!

I told the coach that I like doing body weight stuff as opposed weight lifting so he thinks that TRX will hit the spot for me! I figured that because it is my first time doing these classes I won't be beasting it so can justify doing loads to begin with! Nervous and excited!!

Yup, that's exactly how I'd approach those first few classes, not full beast mode just yet - that will come! :) Great that the trainer actually listens to what you want too. Sure the classes will be fun! Enjoy!!!

I absolutely love body pump and body balance. They really compliment each other.

There was one called Body Attack too, Janus but that sounds too high impact for me. I did think of you when I booked Body Pump. Any tips for a beginner?

My only tip for body pump is start with low weights, like 2.5kg either side, just for the first session. It will seem light for legs, chest and back tracks but most important to get a feel for the whole thing and focus on the movements. Also there are high reps and each track is 5-6 mins so fatigue sets in…you will soon get a feel for the right weights for you on each track. The other thing is that different releases have tracks that are trickier than others for new starters, like fast backward stepping lunges for example. If it’s annoying because you can’t maintain form just adapt to a simpler version. 117 is the latest release on demand and it is all pretty straightforward but you might be on 118 in the gym.

tried all but TRX. i like body pump and attack; one for strength and last for stamina. find your comfort zone as it is intense. Once you get the hang of it, you can up the weights/reps. hope you enjoy it x

I am looking forward to trying the new things, acomandr. It is time to challenge the body in different ways. went to the spin class today and it was like seeing an old friend (I used to to be a spin freak!!)

Thanks TarekU and Janus..............I had planned to start with just the bar, no weight. And just in case anyone else is unaware of this.......TRX is pronounced T-Rex..lol. Found that out today and was greatly amused as I consider myself a dinosaur in the gym in the eyes of the younger generation.
