Sjoe Mike. That's some solid advice. If I eat too little I don't loose a thing and my stomach acts up. This sort of explains it. I've lost so much muscle definition I look skinny fat. I suppose one has to guard against bingeing on bad or empty calories. So if I understand correctly binge on good calories, so that your body doesn't cling to it, but takes what it needs and discards the rest?

@Lisa, quite right, binge on good things, like nuts, fruit, biltong, etc... but on weekends i have a bad binge like pizza or a monster braai, etc... and then all the water i consume during that binge period retains, when im back on wagon Monday, i pee out the gain within a day or two. Enjoying food isnt the enemy, loosing control is... thinking your body can run on wind and water is a fable.

Well yes, you can't expect to work like a machine if you eat too little. My type of job requires long periods of intense concentration and I did not know what a hungry organ the brain can be! So I read up on it and saw some CT scans where the brain literally lights up like a christmas tree if you sit and concentrate for long periods. The brain takes up to 20% of the total calories burned in a day. I'd much rather have a healthy brain thank you.

Mike has such a wealth of knowledge. I've actually taken his advice, forgotten the carbs and added good carbs like carrots, okra, aubergines etc etc to my diet... Not only am I enjoying my diet much more, but I'm also no longer constipated from too many proteins only, am much fuller, don't crave sweet things because I've added fruits like papaya etc and also losing better... Tx Mike.

@ lessthan- Great that some of my tit bits have been of value to you. But just know, my opinion is only based on my own experiences and experiments during my journey and not that from a qualified professional.
