Bicarbonate of soda, a half teaspoon in a glass of water and follow it with another glass or two of water. Best done after you wake up. You will soon go no.2. It is also good for your kidneys. Alkalines the stomach. It’s preferable not to eat too soon after. It will cause digestive issues. Because not much stomach acids. Before you eat. Have apple cider vinegar(2tblsp) with fresh lemon juice in a glass of water. Wait an hour, then have your breakfast. It will get your digestive acids going. Bicarbonate of soda, once it reaches the stomach, turns into table salt. So best to do it once a week, even though I know many use it daily. Because they fast a lot and are always low on salt. But if you have a salt problem. Keep it to once a week. I doubt you do. Just letting others know, whoever might read this comment.

How fast does it work? I refuse to do that at work so can only "go" when home

It works pretty fast, not longer than 30mins. I usually go within 10mins. Try on your day off, just to be safe lol I don’t want you cursing me😂

hallo! I'm a registered dietitian and I can promise you you cant change the alkalinity of your stomach or blood in any way... the body has MANY mechanisms to ensure it stays the right pH.. eg if you eat alkaline foods the stomach secretes more acid.. https://nutritionstudies.org/the-myth-of-alkalizing-your-body/ for constipation relief try boiled prunes or apricots on an empty stomach with some warm water, or over some warm oats* the soluble and insoluble fibre will have you going in no time💩

@Marike, yes, your body will return it’s own stomach acids. But eat just after taking bicarbonate of soda will give you digestive problems. You would have to wait a few hours before eating food. To speed up the process. Taking apple cider vinegar and lemon juice in water. Works well. If you want to eat sooner than later. I’m not a registered dietitian. I only speak from my own life experiences... but information is at everyone’s fingertips. I suggest anyone that is going to try something new. Should do further research on their own. Not take anyone’s word for it, including those that say they are qualified.

I'm generally not regular. Only every 3 to 4 days. Since I can remember. I'm not uncomfortable or anything so will give my body chance to do its own thing. I do find that Epson salts tends to work

@Pascoal777 in your research, why does Bicarbonate help with constipation?
22 Oct 19 by member: marike0715
@Marike, the same reason why prunes and other fruits and veg help. They alkaline the stomach causing a bowel movement. But Leandra only eats 500cals a day and eating fruits and veg are not an option. So I gave her the low calorie option. I just don’t want her to have any digestive issues. Because eating straight after taking bicarb can cause digestive issue. I know that, because I’ve done that mistake myself. Any advice I give. Comes from using or testing it on myself. Otherwise I would state that this is what I’ve heard from friends that have experimented on themselves. In no way am I saying you don’t know what you are talking about. But you get many certified dieticians on FS that have no clue what they post. You will soon see that for yourself.

My biggest problem is that I cannot eat most green vegetables as it gives me incredible pain and discomfort. So things like apples, pears, cabbage, beans, brocolli even cauliflower make me sick. I tend to stick to citrus when it comes to fruits and veg is things like baby marrow, carrots, mushrooms, gem squash etc

@Pascoal777 prunes and apricots work well because of the soluble fibre in them, not because they are alkaline😉 You dont need to eat alot if them, 2 should do the trick and that is under 100kcal.. very low calorie diets can also cause constipation.. There is a difference between a qualified dietetian (which requires a university degree plus 800h of practical training) and a nutritionist (no qualification needed, self taught but might still be very knowledgeable)... hopefully this helps with who to trust

@leandra1986 brocolli, cauloflower, beans, cabbage is all gas forming veggies so that explains the discomfort and sharp pain, some people are more sensitive to it than others😅 definitely stick to veggies that work best for you to mke sure you egt enough soluble fibre

@Marike, they just happen to be high alkaline foods as well, and so are many fruit and vegetables that help you to go regularly. I eat loads of fruit and vegetables and go everyday. Not only that, they help prevent high acidity in the blood. Preventing acne and many illnesses. And yes very high in fibre too. I would eat fruit and vegetables over high fibre foods like cereals. They can actually make you constipated if you don’t drink enough water. So I would go with alkaline fruits and veg. 😁 that’s why bicarbonate of soda works. Try it for yourself. It’s good for your kidneys as well. So I don’t think it would hurt. Epsom salt on the other hand will give you the runs Leandra😂 is a natural laxative.
