_bec_ca's Journal, 13 May 24

Hello FS friends. Just a simple check-in. I got to 160.8 this morning, after a few days of a liquid diet due to a bout with diverticulosis. I'm doing a lot better now. On the breast cancer situation, I started to see an oncologist, tried letrozole, and stopped it because of severe side effects. Now, taking the lower dose of tamoxifen. Had a CT scan, and some small nodules were found in my lungs. I will be taking another scan in July to keep an eye on any growth or changes in those nodules. We are currently on our way to California for a doctor's visit (breast surgeon). And of course, to spend time with family and our grandbabies, especially Emmylou, who has turned 4 years old today. 🥳 Hope everyone is doing well and getting closer to who and where they want to be. I, for one, want to be doing as well as Gib! 👍👏🩷

Wifey, thank you my friend. 🩷 I will admit, this last week was brutal at times and I felt a bit defeated for a time, but God did His thing and brought me out of it. 🙏💗 We are so 3xcited to spent time with the babies. 🩷💙

Thank you, Morticia. 🩷 I had a bad time with urgent care, in that they didn't think my situation was urgent. 😕 I was told it would be a week before the results of a culture would be available. I diagnosed myself and my husband was my doctor! At one point I was contemplating a 2 hour car ride to a big city emergency room. I decided against it and what we did worked. Our oldest son has diverticulitis and when I spoke to him, he told me to do exactly what I was already doing. 👍 I'm sorry to hear about your husband's troubles. I will keep him in my prayers. I'm not currently doing chemo, but I have heard it can be a rough journey. 🙏

For those dealing w/ diverticulitis or diagnosed in the past please please please DO NOT underestimate a flare up! I had the typical known pain & started antibiotics after a few days of symptoms when I knew it wouldn't just pass on its own. My daughter & hubby started insisting that I go to ER cuz I'd been moaning occasionally for several days. That day I stated antibiotics & told them I was ok & would wait a few days on meds. I finally broke down & went about 11pm after vomiting a banana. I was admitted, diagnosed after diagnostic testing. I was too late & had a rupture. In <24 hrs I turned septic in the hospital. Surgeon came in & said if you're not in OR w/in the hr you won't see tomorrow. I woke up w/ an ostomy bag. It was supposed to be reversed in ~6 months. After 2 wks I was sent home w/ necrosis & had to have emergency corrective surgery after surgical site turned gangrene. I started getting a parastomal hernia w/in months. My surgeon ghosted me at the 9 month mark even though he'd been pd in full. It took another 1.5 yrs to find a surgeon in network that had the skills required because the hernia had gotten to cantaloupe size. It's now size of a basketball & new surgeon keeps telling me to go on Ozempic & come back in 3 months. It's been a total of 3 yrs & I thinking he's scared to do surgery because it's now so big. My insurance won't cover it for weightloss so I'm struggling to lose it old fashion way. I walk ~70 miles month & without best I can but it just keeps growing due to exercise. Sorry so long & likely TMI but please take my warning seriously & see a Dr right away at 1st signs. ❤

Aww, Jen, thank you. 💗 I appreciate and feel your prayers. I am in good hands, both literally and figuratively. I am truly blessed with good people in my life. This last week was a hiccup that disrupted my routine and I had to readjust my health focus, but I did learn a few things, one of them being to listen to that voice of wisdom coming from within. 👍

Becca, my name is Kim, we've never chatted before; but I just read your post and would like to say that I will keep you in my prayers. My mother has fought lung cancer two times each time had a part of her lung removed, and she won! Enjoy the California sunshine but more importantly enjoy those grandchildren! And congrats on your weight loss.

Thank you, kk. 🩷 Having friends and family, as well as FS friends wishing me the best, really makes this situation less daunting.
