I follow this blogger, Mark Sisson. I like him. I like the way he thinks and views life. He is a paleo, sort of Keto sort of guy, but that isn’t why I follow him. I’m just a CiICO person. He is right— more and more people are removing alcohol from their life style. Some because they need to, some because they HAVE to or die, and others like me, just decided that it really does not ADD anything to my life. I cook with it and have found a terrific non- alcoholic beer and, finely, a non-alcoholic wine that I will take to social events. I love beer. The attached is just a screen print— nothing to click on but the url is listed

Non alcoholic wine, huh? I'll have to check that out!

To each their own, I suppose.

Alcohol was one of those things that I could live without and not worth the calories to ME. Now sweets on the other hand....I'll continue to fit them in 😉

Which non alcoholic wine did you like?

I don't care what it is, if it's liquid calories, I don't consume them.

Psst...Diablo, there's a photo circulating on fs of you pouring Fairlife chocolate milk over your cereal. Oh wait, your comment was directed at liquid calories from alcohol. Now I get it. Never mind.

Just got some Lagunitas IPNA because I want to check it out, but it's still 80kcal / 12 floz.

I was never much of a drinker but I do enjoy an occasional glass of wine. I rarely indulge though cuz it's not worth the calories..💜

12 floz of regular light beer is 90 kcal, cheaper and has alcohol. If you're cutting alcohol for sole nutritional argument, that's hard to justify. I understand the other potential benefits, just being the devil's advocate here.

I told myself when I started that I wouldn't deny myself anything and that includes alcohol. However, I understand that consumption of alcohol must be infrequent because it is empty calories. Basically, I'm an advocate for all things in moderation.

I don't drink socially but I do have a glass of cabernet almost every night. These are not empty calories IMO. Heart health benefits, rich in flavanoids, a great antioxidant, kills oral bacteria to aid in dental and gum health, high in melatonin to aid in getting a good nights sleep. All that for just 100 calories seems like a no brainer !

Crazycatchick, I'll go along with the benefits you describe. However, there are many other foods that offer far more nutrition for 100 calories. My go to drink is high end scotch over ice. Nothing better at the end of a tough day to relax and unwind. I don't consume it for its nutritional value.

I enjoy wine with dinner. I also enjoy a Bloody Mary or Margarita occasionally. I like a slice of carrot cake or cheesecake sometimes. I eat lots of healthy meals...if I also enjoy something without a lot of nutritional value, it's of value to me if I enjoy it. It's when we choose to have too much of the treats when it becomes a problem.

I have also chosen to have a virgin Bloody Mary when the calories didn't fit into my day's total.

Les, I don't have the liquid calories alone. Need donuts or cereal.

That said, any calories are fine as long as they fit into your calorie goals. I just am not drinking unless the aim is to get drunk, and if I'm getting drunk, say goodbye to my calorie goals lol. Similar to coffee, the taste is putrid.

LOL Diablo. I don't know how you do it. You must expend a lot of energy lifting weights.

I spent so many years being “on call” — needing to go into the hospital to work at any hour of the day or night. Obviously could not drink at all. Tried all sorts of non- alcoholic stuff during those years but that was a bust. But then when I could drink, I just didn’t like the way I felt. In my younger years I partied like a lot of others but I was a light weight. Got sick before I got drunk. And then there was always that issue of driving home. I have seen to many alcohol related deaths. I like Coors non alcoholic beer and a brand of wine called FRE. I still cook with real wine, just don’t drink it.
