Kenna Morton's Journal, 02 Mar 21

The issue of people feeling that they are not receiving support from the FS community has come up again. One thing that I know happens to me all the time is that the switch that you select for see all posts never stays in place. Each and every time I open FS I have to change it from “featured” to “everyone”, and to be truthful, I just forget to do it..

I did not know this. Do you do this from your phone as well. I did recognize the web page has more to offer than the app. I hope everyone feels supported from me. After all we all came here for the same reason

Kenna you’re right. It can be frustrating at times. I often miss a post till days later. Freetime I enjoy your posts. I need to get on the computer more, but once I am in the office I end up working, enjoy your Tuesday!!

There must be hundreds, perhaps millions, of people who use this clunky app around the globe. I don't think it's possible to support everyone all the time. Although imperfect, I do my best with diet, exercise and supporting others who are like minded.

@Freetime - You can do it on your phone, too. =) On the feed page, right under your user pic at the very top is a filter option. The default is "featured" but you're able to change it to "everyone." Mine is set to the latter, but I have noticed that posts that receive comments/likes tend to stay in my feed longer than posts that don't, and active participants in the community tend to cycle through more frequently (in part because they post more frequently), so it becomes sort of a self-perpetuating cycle. Not sure why that is, but I imagine it's an artifact of the algorithm.

Also, I think people need to know and internalize the concept that this is a solitary journey whether you like it or not. Great and wonderful to have the support of your hubs, BFF, BF, parents, siblings, co-workers, etc, etc, etc,. But the bottom line is this is YOUR journey. If you are only going to do it if you get “likes”, “you got this”, and “attaboys” , then your are on a short hop. this app has some tremendous success stories. People who chose to improve themselves and their long term health by making a lifestyle change. The support is fabulous, but JUST DO IT for yourself.

Thanks for the reminder on the settings Kenna I forget all the time too!! For me it's reading all these posts and knowing that even if no one "likes" *eye roll* my posts that there are hundreds out there on this journey with me😁

Amen Kenna, your comment nailed it on the head. We have to do it for ourselves and that is it. Unfortunately people mistake this forum to a social media type platform like Facebook. I'm just like people work yall, and got kids. Not everyone can just sit at home all day and comment and like everything. LOL.

I find it a bit weird that people demand support. Give and you shall receive is how this works. You have to engage and support others and reach out. Very few new people who just post one post will get much for support. They do not show up in people's list . Popular posts and polular people will rise to top very quickly and the rest gets pushed way back down. So if people want interaction they have to reach out

Sometimes it’s the caring for one another that makes you want to push a little harder even though you’re doing it for yourself. Life is hard. It’s nice when others can lift you up a little and it helps the soul.🌺 Liv001 you are just too enjoyable and I always appreciate your posts. It takes a little time to read and write, but you don’t have to on this site, if you don’t want to reach out you don’t have to. You can make it all private.😊

Concur, Kenna. for the newbies, if you start clicking the green heart of support for others, following and posting, you will start showing up in people's threads and getting the support you crave. If you start following people, it's very likely they will follow you back. See how that works? in the meantime, read and click, maybe keep posting a sentence or a pic. you get what you give.

@Liv001, I agree. If we begin to "follow" people they will often follow back. Or if we participate in challenges then other members will follow us and we can follow them. People need to put out some effort and they'll get responses. Same is true in real life. If you don't step out of the house it drastically reduces the contact you'll have with others. @Kenna Morton, On the other hand, here on FS, I often switch it from featured to Me or to Following. I don't find it helpful at all to see plate after plate of food, including high carb meals or "cheat meals" when I'm trying to fast (I know, each to their own on their own personal journals, if I don't like it I can look away--and that's what I'm saying I do) so I switch it away from featured or everyone, or try to go straight to somewhere else so I can avoid all the food photos. But it does impede the social aspect of this site somewhat.
