For my keto friends:

I get it. I was there. I was keto/LCHF for a long, long time. I was convinced carbs made me gain weight. I "flipped the carb switch off" and eliminated the desire completely. I was never tempted by all the sweet goodies because I'd convinced myself early on they were unhealthy and therefore filled up on other things instead. All the carbs I got were incidental or from veggies.

Now I present a curiosity poll...

So, which category do you fall into (or create your own):

💚 = Deep down, I like carbs, but...
🚫 = Carbs are bad for me/you.

1. 🚫 Carbs are unhealthy and I am afraid of all the negative effects that result from their consumption (ie: diabetes, fat gain, cholesterol number imbalance, etc.).

2. 🚫 Carbs are somehow counterproductive to my goals and therefore I avoid them.

3. 💚 Carbs are too tempting to me and I want to lose weight, but I keep backsliding because they call to me and I can't resist 😧

4. 🚫 Carbs don't agree with me and make me feel gross... My body feels "cleaner" when I eat primarily fats and proteins.

5. 💚 Carbs cause me to gain weight. Period. Never fails. If I eat more than ___ grams, I'm putting on pounds - it never fails!

I eat carbs but veggie carbs mostly with the occasional piece of bread or random pasta dish. Mostly I make my pasta dishes with veggies keeping it low carb whether it be zucchini noodles or sweet potato noodles or even eggplant/zucchini lasagna. I was never a big rice eater so if I want it I make cauliflower rice. I do have tortillas in my fridge but I use them in moderation because I usually try and keep my carbs under 30 grams if I'm counting. If i want a wrap there's a brand which I can't remember right now, but they sell their flax/whole wheat tortilla wraps at Sams club for like $5. Anyway, I'm vegetarian so I just try to eat clean outside of the occasional meat substitute and avoid sodas and alcohol like the plague. Carbs aren't the enemy at least for my body, it's all in moderation and what works great for one might not work for another. I have tried Keto, high protein, Nutrisystem, everything. I have friends that lost A LOT of weight on Keto and then there's people like me who lost a little but felt miserable with all the fats. So now I'm mostly just the veggie girl and yes my progress is slower but what matters to me is how I feel and right now my body feels good and I really don't crave anything. What I will say though is Stevia has become my best friend. Sorry for the long post! :)

you're sweet Chris...I like your style better than others on here some times..I get all worked up and upset and feel attacked and yours feel more like you're exploring other views and starting a conversation..that's respectful of others...I love that about so thank you! <3 for me it's 4 and 5 mostly. I do think too many unhealthy carbs are bad and cause diabetes too. People need to remember that although they might be able to eat carbs and stay a healthy weight that if they're eating a bunch of junk but just watching portions they may be doing damage inside. I know a guy that went on WW and ate junk but kept his numbers good...he lost a ton of weight and developed diabetes!

Sharon has a valid point. No way my hubby who has health issues, t2d, could eat what some people eat. He’d likely be in a diabetic coma. Scary. Carbs are an issue with diabetics, as far as I know. Certain ones raise blood sugar and need to be eaten at a minimal. I’m not here to argue just stating what I’ve seen in my husband. Others may eat it and not be effected. Different weight, amount of muscle, activity level, age, sleep patterns are all factors, varying for us all.

For me, If I go keto. I obsess with carbs, sweets and things I cant have. I completely 180 my diet in the last few months. I now just focus on eating whole healthy foods, 2 big meals a day 1 smaller ish meal and a snack. I just eat when hungry. I also fast and eat in a 8 hour window daily which helps me avoid over eating. I also dont drink much alcohol anymore, maybe 1 -2 glasses of wine on a weekend or not at all. I became more lax with myself because before I would drive myself crazy to the point of weekly binging. Because I am more about moderation with things, I dont get cravings. And I allow myself the occasional slice of pizza because I fit it into my calories. I am finally seeing results this way

6 but everyone is different! 👍 you are fortunate, you healed your body you still take care of yourself. I still think it's the type of carbs, frequency you are shoving extra insulin in your body. keto is not needed for everyone. but, eating carbs all day is still and always be bad. your doing great!

I eat a diet that is 80% complex carbs: fresh fruit for breakfast, fresh salad for lunch (with olive oil & balsamic or red wine vinegar), then usually Indian or Asian food for dinner with champagne or wine when I'm not dieting. And I don't count calories or carbs. The moment that I introduce sugar (simple carbs) into my WOE is when the pounds pack on.

I love carbs from bagels to bread to pizza. It’s so hard to avoid them. I tend to be an emotional eater so this low carb diet is very difficult

2,3 and 4. But I no longer do strict low carb because I feel my body should have the good carbs from fruits and veggies. I try to steer clear of man made carbs, like breads, candies, sweets etc. and when I do eat those types of carbs I’m like an addict and I want more and more.

Very interesting points of view and lifestyles. I think the take away here is, you have to know yourself and eat what is good for YOU! Some very healthy foods play havoc with certain people's systems. Eating is not so simple, is it? The main thing is keep trying to eat what is appealing and good for ones own health. GREAT POST and COMMENTS!!!!

I'm a hard 3. Slightly number 1 because I'm pre-diabetic and that scares me.

None of the above. I have to have some carbs but not in the form of soda and french fries.

3. 💚 Carbs are too tempting to me and I want to lose weight, but I keep backsliding because they call to me and I can't resist 😧 This is me. I started out well just eliminating bread and potatoes, then went on to keto but didn't do it properly and brought on some health issues like gout and gallbladder problems.

Where is the option for , “I obsess about food and am trying 40 diets at the same time”?

The sugar in fruit is no different to the sugar in anything else as far as your body is concerned. Not evil, lol https://examine.com/nutrition/difference-between-hfcs-and-sugar/

None of the above for me. Carbs=calories. Delicious energy packed calories. They fuel my workouts and keep me on track calorie-wise.
