Yesterday my weight was still 57.1kg. So have I gained a whole kg over 24 hours? Definitely not. I did strength training yesterday for the first time in months and my muscles are sore and retaining water. My weight will come down again if I'm consistent with my exercise and my body adapts.

Point is, if you're somebody that only weights once a week and gets despondent when the scale doesn't move or worse, goes up, don't stress too much and focus on how your clothes fit or progress photos.

I wish I knew this when I was younger.

I weigh myself every morning (Monday to Friday) and log on a spreadsheet. I log the average for the week here on a Friday. I've learned so much. For example, during ovulation and when I have high carb dinners my weight spikes but it always comes down again. The scale is just another tool.

I cannot understand whats happening with my weight .. I was 48kg a few months ago and went up to 54kg ... I'm trying to loose the 6kg and go back to where I was and its a bloody struggle .. I'm following a calorie restricted diet, loads if water , exercise etc.. but I'll weigh myself today and be 53.7 kg and then the very next day its 54.6!!!! how !!!! ????? then then next morning its 54.. and then the morning after 53.7... I'm becoming despondent!!!

Wait a minute, so muscles retain water after strenuous weight training????

When you do strenuous resistance training, your body is primarily using glycogen for energy. Glycogen is a "form" of carbohydrate that is stored in muscles. When you eat again, your body replenishes the depleted glycogen from the food you take in. Thing is, every 1gram of glycogen is able to store 3grams of water, and since hydration is important for recovery the body will try store this water with the glycogen in the muscle cells. Basically intense exercise => loss of glycogen => body replenishes glycogen from food => glycogen uptake into muscles along with water weight
