After almost 3 years of managing my "snacks" I seem to be struggling. I have always allowed myself a snack or 2 a day. I think it may be "cravings" I'm having trouble with. Yesterday I had lunch out with sister & we went to a favorite Japanese place. I had sushi & enjoyed it. Later, after I ran my errands & was home I wanted something sweet, so ate a packet of Welch's fruit snacks (80 calories). Later, I finished off a bag of Smart 50 popcorn. There was only about a cup left in the bag & I didn't open another one, so about 50 calories. Hubby had an upset tummy earlier in the day so he wasn't wanting a big meal for dinner. We decided soup & a sandwich & he chose the Chicken Tortilla soup. I made a sandwich of corned beef, Swiss cheese, tomato & lettuce on Marble Rye bread. It was tasty & filling and not exceptionally high in calories. I had a few Brookside Dark Chocolate with blueberry pieces as I finished my wine. After that we did the dishes & watched some TV. I decided that instead of pouring another glass of wine...as I've had the inclination to do lately...I'd have a glass of sparkling water with a splash of cranberry. All good....Later I found myself sitting there on the sofa craving peanuts. Hubby got up to get something and I decided I'd have some peanuts. Good news....I poured some in a small bowl & put a few back in the jar when I realized it was over 350 calories worth. I did end up eating about 250 calories in nuts 😐

For a long time, I would have dessert after dinner and didn't even think about having anything else. A few days ago, I had potato chips. That's a habit I definitely need to nip in the bud! My problem time for snacks was afternoon, before. I don't need 2 times of the day I'm craving stuff.

three years of managing the snacks is a fantastic feat. if you're having cravings maybe your body is tell you something: nutrient deficiencies, poor/lack of sleep, more stress than usual... maybe look there for your answer to your sudden desire to snack

Cravings are tough, especially snacks and the in front of the tv snacking. I watched Dr. Fungs videos about how snacking spikes insulin which creates cravings and followed his advice which helped me a lot. Regardless though, if you had a handle on it before, for such a long time, you can do it again- let your previous success steer you in the right direction

They take on a life of their own snacks. Good for you recognizing it so you can manage it.

Are you actually hungry, though? Snacking is habitual, definitely. I don't bring it home from the grocery store, which is a major part of my weight loss strategy. The only thing around here is berries. Are you at the weight you want to be at?

Oh Sherrye I so feel ya! REM is right, you can do it again. Try to have a whole glass of water before snacking. Look who’s calling the kettle black. Today that little bag of Welch’s fruit snacks I down, the popcorn I downed and mixed nuts too. Nuts are full of calories, yet very healthy, so it at least has that going on. Wine has benefits as well, it’s on my mind now.😄🍷We’ll get through this!👍💪

JustBananas, no I'm not hungry. Since I don't live alone, I have to accept there may be snacks in the house I shouldn't overindulge in. For a long time I did well ignoring those. I buy snacks that are better choices for myself. My problem recently has been eating at times I usually wasn't eating, like at night. Not every night but occasionally. I have maintained at the weight I wanted to be but I'm a couple of lbs. higher, right now.
