Hey guys I have a few questions concerning maize meal (mieliemeel pap). Is it better or worse than oats? I'm thinking of mixing it in my diet to break the monotony of oats every morning. And what has your experience been with it? Is it easy to cook? Does it make you feel heavy or light in the morning? Thanks

Check the calories on the App. Pap has waaay more calories than Oats. But then again, it all depends on your goal.

Yes pap has more calories than oats. I couldn't find it on this app, so I searched nutritional information from other apps and added it here for my own reference. It definitely has more calories. I still eat pap though, I budget for its calories. You can still have it, just budget for its calories. For example, if I will have stiff pap at night I opt for a low calorie breakfast and lunch so that I have more than enough calories reserved for my pap 😀

I do the same Sizo. I cannot imagine eating tripe, hardbody chicken, maotwana etc. With anything else. So i weigh my pap and make sure it is about 60g.

I used to eat tripe with broccoli before I learnt about calorie counting. I wanted to cry 😭😭. Now I reserve calories for my pap. I also weigh it , but to about 100g 🤧 but I still make it within my daily calorie targets

hallo! dietitian here🥰 you can try cooking your pap the previous day and just reheating it when you wang to eat it as this lowers the GI of the pap. Another alternative is to have maltebella pap as its higher in fibre. Lower GI and higher fibre foods keep you fuller for longer so then its easier to stay within your calories for the rest of the day😁 and always try to eat in combination with veggies and a healthy protein. definitely aggree that you should still be able to eat your favorite foods, portion control, accounting for it the rest of the day and making it as healthy as possible is the best way to approach it
