Hi everyone, just want to share my story, just because it helps me to keep perspective and writing always helps. In the end of 2016 I was done with my first year at Uni and the first year spread had claimed it's dues. But during the first few months of 2017 I started living healthier bit by bit and in May 2017 I started exercising regularly by myself for the first time ever. I also fell in love and eating healthy and in good amounts came easy (Ps. We'll be together 3 years on the 25th of May🎉). I was also in a hostel and eating their meals made it easy and healthy if I didn't eat too many / unhealthy snacka in between or late at night. The exercise went great and by November I lost about 15kg and have never looked or felt better! For the first time ever I felt and looked like my best self and I was so happy to look in the mirror, see myself in photos or just generaly live my life.

Then December holiday came and when 2018 kicked off I stuggled to get back on the exercise horse. The rest of 2018 my boyfriend and I settled into out relationship and got in a comfort zone of eating what we want when we want with minimal exercise. On and off through 2018 and especially 2019 I tried to start exercising again but just couldn't get myself to commit fully, and every attempt just felt like a failure. I was so unfit that I couldn't finish any exercise videos or programs I tried and it demotivated me so much! I also couldn't get myself to fix my eating habits, in 2019 I moved into a flat with my best friend and preparing my own meals became a new responsibility. This also made it easier to just follow the path of comfort and eat a lot of cheese/tomato sandwiches and basically anything tasty and easy, even if it was too much or very unhealthy. By the end of 2019 I had gained 30kg in two years. I had never been this big or unhappy and uncomfortable with myself.

So just before the 1st week of uni started in January of this year I bought an exercise and eating plan through a magazine. Just getting myself to commit to changing my lifestyle was no easy task. Slowly but surely I started changing my lifestyle, because that's what it's all about to me, not just losing weight, exercising myself blue, starving myself or making myself unhappy by not eating anything I like - IT'S ABOUT LIFESTYLE! I wanted to be healthy and feel good about myself because of the way I live, I missed exercising and enjoying it and I hated the feeling at the end of the day when I ate too much and kept no boundaries. It was time for a drastic change.

When I started with this program I weighed 101.7kg, I took my measurements and followed the balanced diet the program supplied. The exercise was balanced as well with a quite intense warm up and a mix of cardio, legs, arms and abs. At first I tried and with a lot of struggle, managed to just finish the warm up. It consisted of: 20 squats, 20 jump squats, 24 lunges, 20 squat kicks, 30sec jumping jacks, 30 sec, running on the spot.
I lost about 0.5kg a week which I feel is healthy and a good pace. But there were fluctuations as well.

About a month and a half after I started with this lifestyle change I went to see a doctor because for 6 months I've constantly felt tired, no matter how much I slept and it didn't change after I started exercising or changed my eating habits.

My blood tests showed I had inflammation, there were problems with my digestion. It also turns out due to the rapid amount of weight gain and no boundaries or exercise I had developed insulin resistance. All this was a big low point for me, I was so embarrassed and disappointed in myself. I had to follow an Elimination Diet for 3 weeks - no gluten, eggs, diary, red meat, soya or any sugar (sugar has to be cut out for the most part for the rest of my life, or I risk getting Diabetes)

After the 3 weeks I had to systematically put each item back one at a time and observe the reaction 2 days later. I didn't show any drastic reaction, but diary and gluten had specific reactions. I am eating eggs again, I avoid gluten and diary, but if my mom puts a bit in meals I will eat some. I have also been enjoying finding recipes for vegan, sugar free (I'm only really allowed to eat stevia) desserts. I don't eat any bread, mostly rice cakes as a replacement and a lot of healthy fats and protein.

It's been a couple of months now and it's been going well, just slowly, but I know this could take a long time so patience is key. Since the lockdown I've been at my parents' house and not my flat. My scale at the flat differs from the one at home, last time I weighed about 3 weeks ago at the flat is was 97, then I weighed at home and it was 96 then a couple of days later it was 95.4. But recently the one at home showed 97 again so I must have gained a few again that is why I decided to start with 97.
My dad also has a home gym machine. My boyfriend has been helping me a lot with the machine and the exercise overall have improved so much. I'm enjoying it and is adjusting what I do to what I like and is capable of. I am pushing myself hard and it feels good.

Since I've been making progress mentally in this journey I decided to get this app and track my calories. I did some research and apparently I should eat 1900cal a day to lose weight, other sources said between 1500 and 1800cal. Yesterday, without trying and just eating normally I reached 1400cal. My plan is just to continue with this method and track my progress. If you have any recommendations of advice regarding the sugarfree/diaryfree/glutenfree recipes or the amount of calories, please help☺️ I look forward to finishing this journey in this community! 💞

What helped me cure my insulin resistance. Was fasting and cutting refined carbs and sugar out of my diet. Once you have cured your insulin resistance, you can slowly start adding carbs to your diet. But in the beginning you want to cut most of them out except healthy low carb vegetables. Or you can try keto and you don’t have to fast if it’s not for you. You can try time restricting eating. Like not eating after 7pm at night. Depending when you go to bed. Stop eatIng at least 4 hours before you go to bed. I'm sure you will get many different opinions/advice. Just do what works for you😊. Good luck 🍀and all the best on your health and fitness journey❣️

Thanks for the advise, I appreciate it! A lot of people have shared thair IF experiences with me and it might be something to look in to eventually. The doctor suggested a high protein breakfast early in the day and vegetable-focused meals the rest of the day. I'm very curious about the state of my insulin resistance now. I found out about 2 months ago and I hope deep down that it has improved since. Cutting things out is very challenging, I've always believed in everything in moderation, so it's still very difficult 🙁
