Joleen2012's Journal, 02 Sep 19

I completed my August goal of 18:6 IF and good news … lost 13 pounds and 2 points off BMI. I'm switching it up for September, changing to a 16:8 IF to allow for a noon time lunch at work and more time for errands and meal prep after work.

Best of all, my energy is returning. I don't feel the need for a nap everyday, and the foggy brain feeling is gone. Also, the pain in my lower back and down my legs due to pinched nerves is gone!! Doctor said I'd have to have surgery to correct it - nope, don't think I do :)
119.9 kg Lost so far: 15.3 kg.    Still to go: 61.0 kg.    Diet followed: Reasonably Well.

Joleen- I started IF yesterday. 18-6. Have been inspired by you and others that this may jumpstart my weightloss again. Great job!

Good for you, crazycatchick! It was easier than I thought it would be, and I don't get hungry, which has been so difficult for me in the past (being hungry all the time).

So how does one do IF? I keep seeing a bunch of abbreviations on this app and figured I should ask

Rjacob, "Intermittent fasting" is another name for "time-restricted eating." The idea is to fast for part of the day, consuming only non-caloric beverages (coffee with heavy whipping cream is okay, according to some advocates -- and essential to me). "16:8" means fasting 16 hours and eating what fits your "diet regimen" within the remaining 8 hours, and doing this every day if you so choose. Jason Fung, M.D., a practicing nephrologist in Toronto, treats his very ill patients with IF and "EF" -- extended fasting for multiple days at a time. Ken D. Berry, M.D., a Board-certified and practicing family physician in Tennessee (now in Nashville), recommends IF or EF for up to 24 hours without medical supervision. You can find extensive resources from both of them online, on Amazon and YouTube.

I use IF (now OMAD - one meal a day) in combination with a strict ketogenic regimen (<20g total carbs, high fat, moderate protein) to, first, treat my T2 diabetes and, second, to lose weight. Both "projects" are going nicely!

Thanks, everyone! I'm so motivated going into September. @rjacob, I recommend going to dietdoctor.com. They have a great IF guide. Bella, aka my FS Pat McManus, thank you😊

I'm not sure if I mentioned this before but I absolutely love McManus. Did you ever read the one about the gun show? My fav. I've quoted 'the dumb look' line so many times I should send him a check. BTW I finally replied to your PM today. Have a great day!

Excellent work, I hope that all of your goals ended in success. Intermittent fasting while reducing carb and calorie deficit, its results are always successful. Enjoy the journey to get a healthy life👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🌹
