Egull1's Journal, 25 Nov 17

I was listening to Jack Kornfield's podcast last night, and partway through it he discusses a moment when he and his guru Ajahn Chah were walking through a field. Ajahn Chah stopped his followers, pointed to a large stone and said,

"Do you think this stone is heavy?"

His followers all replied, "yes, yes indeed!"

Ajahn looked among his followers and said,

"Only if you lift it"

I am thankful this morning I got in almost 8 hours of sleep. That has not happened in a long while.

I am thankful I continue to have energy, am steadily increasing laps around the living room/kitchen and during yoga, there was a moment where I felt like a graceful ballerina rather than a middle aged fool on two stumpy legs. LOL 😉

I am HELLA thankful I decided to try a workaround with the plank and able to achieve a new personal record yesterday with 2 planks, a minute each! I also accomplished 2 full blown non-modified push ups. I was only able to go down about 2 inches, but my form was good and I wasn't shaking. Woohoo!

I am thankful for the extra 1.5 inches I FINALLY lost around my hips. (took long enough) 🤨

Goals today: writing, meditation, listening to some more Jack Kornfield, continuing to catch up on the HSM podcasts. 😁

Have a beautiful, blessed day everyone <3

I am thankful for this journal entry (among other things). You are doing amazing! What is a "workaround" plank?

Aww - Happy thanksgiving! {{hugs}}. The workaround regarding the plank was splitting the time between 2 planks instead of trying to hold stead for 1:45 seconds doing one. I've noted my toes are a bit weak and I have a challenging time trying to maintain the plank. But, by splitting up the time between 2 planks and doing a minute for each one, I not only out did my time for planks, but it gave my toes the break they needed so I don't risk collapsing. I have to keep my legs spread farther apart when I do the planks because I have no sensation in my feet so gauging and maintaining balance can be challenging, but I'm coming to find that any exercise is possible with MS, it just needs to be modified.

I thought that's what it might me. Yeah, we sure learn a lot about how to modify exercise to get max benefit without becoming a beetle on it's back. I just never thought of that one...
