Can't believe myself! I was doing so well all week long and when it comes to weekends, I behave like a child with the Golden Ticket in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. I was eating absentmindedly all day long, totally went off my plan. When it just happened, I was able to stop, reassess, make adjustment on my plan accordingly. However, as the day progressed, I was out of control. Before I realized, it was already too late, I ate so much that I couldn't even remember what I had! I'm not done yet, I then said to myself, "What the heck...", gave myself the okay to eat even more. I know I'm going to feel it tomorrow, oh no, I'm actually already feeling it now... on top of the physical discomfort, I'm feeling the pain, the guilt, the remorse, the blame, the shame... (sigh) the ups and downs of the weight loss rollercoaster...

I have the same issue - I do really really well during the week and then the weekends I SUCK - whether it's not eating correctly OR not doing my scheduled exercise.....I'm relieved this weekend only resulted in 1 lbs gained back. I just figure OK - get back on it now!

Been there and done that ... Peace to accept the past - Courage to go on - and wisdom to keep on keeping on. Hang in there! We all have bad days.

One day is one day. Today is a new day. Start fresh and don't beat yourself up. It's unrealistic to think that you will go the rest of your life never having a day when you overindulge. It's much more productive to channel your energy into renewing your discipline for today, rather than blaming yourself for yesterday. Stay strong.

What is it about weekends that we easily get caught off guard? There has to be a plan B. I think.

When I worked, I had the same problem. I worked some long hours and always had salads packed, snacks planned. Then came the weekend and I had the day off - no real food plans, coz I had the day off! That's when I really dedicated myself to doing the majority of cooking on the weekends for the week AND I planned some really delicious meals for Sat and/or Sun. That helped me stay on track. You'll be fine Thsiun. Just have to find something that works for you. If your feelings of guilt, shame, etc. start working on you, you may be tempted to stress eat!

The idea of a "cheat day" is connected to our being trained by years of diet advice accosting us everywhere. We believe we "deserve" certain things from time to time because...because what? We don't deserve to eat stuff that feeds our cravings, increases the fat on our body, gives us bad blood numbers, makes our stomachs ache, etc. SO--eat the yummy stuff you love that's good for your way of eating, and enjoy it! No dieting! (Okay, off my soapbox. As usual I'm preaching to myself! LOL)

I've read that cheat meals.or cheat days can help keep metabolism from slowing down. As we weigh less and less our body's metabolism gets used to the smaller intake. By cheating we keep the metabolism " flexible". at least that's how I understand it. Also this is said to be why the closer we get to the last. or next " ten pounds" it seems harder because it kind of Is harder. Don't sweat the small stuff, and please never punish your self with guilt or shame.

@april, what's 5:2? 2 being super low calorie on weekends, and 5...?

I think maybe a cheat meal, cheat day might be too much for us to handle. A cheat meal once in a while should be ok, especially for special occasions. But it should be carefully planned ahead. Imagine all our hard work goes down the drain after a day of binging. Oh, no!

You are not a "loser" because you fall off the wagon for a day or two. You're a human being. I think that feeling of being helpless in the face of all the delicious things that confront us daily is how we ended up being overweight, and we just make it worse when we beat ourselves up over this. Just keep on going... And take a longer view: It doesn't matter what you weigh tomorrow morning. It matters what you weigh in six months. If the needle keeps going down, the pace is not so important.

Thank you to all, this is the first time in 25+ years that I feel this committed. I normally give up in less than a week especially when I don't see results. I was about to settle down with this weight for good because I feel nothing works for me.

April, where did you get 7900 from, is it you RDI? Or it is a number you chose to work with? If I use my RDI which is 1400, I end up with 1760 for the 5 days, which is way too much for me.

I was thinking about fast Tuesday and Thursday and on Wednesday maybe egg fast? I think it is something I can deal with.
