redgirl1974's Journal, 16 Aug 15

SO i had a break thru this morning. I've had a few slip ups this week due to cockiness and stress and I realized this morning that I think I've been to hard on myself lately.I've been wanting to step it up at the gym and get stricter on what I eat, only wanting organic non processed foods, which is a awesome plan.BUT yesterday I allowed myself a diet coke and some spicy peanuts and then I had some queso with pork skins last night as a snack. All low carb but still junk food in my eyes. BUT here's what I realized.. maybe if I allowed myself more treats and not be so hard on myself, it might not be so easy for me to turn to cookies when I'm stressed.I used to allow myself diet sodas all the time, but the aspartame messes with my tummy now. I used to always have my peanuts and pork skins. But I cut em out..Imma try having one day like say Saturday where I allow myself to indulge, still stay low carb just not be so hard on myself. I bet that will really get me outta a rut for sure. This is dieting 101 and its not a big deal but I'm posting it bc its all part of me learning to make it a lifestyle and not just a diet. On another note, I worked out at the gym yesterday, walked to the store then at 8pm fit bit told me I was 3k away from 10k so I hit the park to wrap it up. I realize there are other ways to push myself and be strict in my life other than my eating habits. I just need to find that happy balance.. I wrote out my goals for week, made a work out schedule, made a huge salad to eat off the whole day and even planned lunch tomorrow with DH.Time for redemption! Like Jonathan Walsh says, be the lioness.. Lioness don't concern themselves with the opinions of sheep! Time to be a lion !!

Diet pepsi doesnt have aspartame anymore, they just switched to splenda. You are too hard on yourself, you are one of my role models. Definitely a lion!

I love pork skins!! Family knows so they... just bring them home! Lol... and i just cant say, sorry but... im on a diet... actually i tried and... they laughed. Thats how much they know me!! Bottom line is, sometimes its fine to give in. As long as you keep your goal in mind and make the changes you need through the week. One careless day a week is not as bad as seven.

Keep going!!! it is a live style so you have to find a way to keep with in your eating but enjoying your food too!!! I used to count our chocolate chips - (extra dark really good ones of course) I would measure out an ounce of them then count them then divide total carbs/calories etc by number of chips - turned out that 1 chip was 2 calories - less that 1 gram of carbs for 10 - not so bad - I'd also make meringues with splenda - I could have 3 small ones for 10 calories - under 1 gram of carbs - so I felt like I had a treat (which sometimes everyone wants!!!) and no harm done! I also drink a lot of club soda with lemon or lime - now I actually prefer that to soda!! You are doing great!!!

Best advice I was told was to have a cheat day each week. This will give you something to work towards and you can save your cravings for that day, and not binge because of withdrawals hehe. At first I thought I couldn't afford a cheat day, but realized now it's really beneficial. There is even something scientific about it actually helping weight loss if you look into it too!

Just joined. Happy to be here. See bio. I am totally focused on food right now for both my DH and myself as we are noticing different things we want to resolve. I noticed that several people talk about journaling. This is what came out in my journal and I thought it was perfect, so I'm sharing. "Where are you on the food ladder towards a healthy body? Answer this question honestly from your heart. Ponder your response. There are no wrong answers. Food is ________. Fill in the blank with any word. Here are some suggestions: comfort, fuel, energy, culture, health, medicine. "

This is great, Red. So much of what we do is mental and thinking things through is important. It is important to stick with plans but we also need to moderate so we do not feel deprived and then have a blow-out!

I agree with Kitten, I've been on the Carb Nite Solution for about 5 months now and it is awesome, every 5 days I'm allowed to binge on carbs and it gives me something to look forward to and prevents plateau-ing, and this has been the only diet to actually make me lose weight, and that's counting my two years(non-consecutive) as a veg. I've been less depressed about the foods that I cannot eat, especially when someone eats it in front of me.

this is intresting redgirl a couple of days ago you posted pictures of your body achievement, and it was fantastic! and the next thing you do is put a bump in your journey, and by no means I intend to demoralize anyone. I've read all over of a cheat day and I am having trouble with that! feel free to prove me wrong. I am almost convinced that your queso and pork skins are ok and as matter of fact I would not consider them as cheat at all, so no guilt there, but any soda and the peanuts spiced yes it's junk. I think we are all in the same boat when we have gotten so large and we have lost control of our eating bad-habits, and I feel that for most of us some foods are just addiction. and how do we stop addiction or in our case cravings?

Ya Monkitita , I agree, I did just post a wonderful pic and ive come a long way ..but along with my success comes this cockiness I get.. Oh I've lost weight so I can eat blah blah blah and so and so .. and that's why this is my 3rd time doing this..Trust me, I was so po'ed afterwards and that's why this post was kinda dedicated to a awakening I had this week. I'm doing fantastic and I love the way I feel but at any moment I can fall back into my old habits , just like I did this week a few times.I have to allow myself some flexibility and make it a lifestyle so I don't go back to my evil ways. I'm at a crucial point in my journey.. I've done Atkins 2x before this and I lost about 60-70 lbs each time then after 6-8 months I lose focus and that's exactly where I am now. I have to push thru this. Stay focused, stay strong, stay committed to myself and my routine but also allow some wiggle room... Im working on finding my happy balance.. and Im so close I can taste it. I just need to humble myself and remember, its taken me a lot of work to get here. Cant let that cockiness blow it... Thanks everyone.. great feedback.. I needed this today ....

Seems like everybody has to work out their own system for "reward foods". Only you can decide whether these will keep you motivated or send you off course. So far you sure do seem to be finding this balance :)

Life is not about a diet. It's about balance. If balance for you is one day a week of not being so strict and it works with your body, then go for it!! My body does better when I mix it up a little...keep it unpredictable by having one different day a week! The great thing is you can try it and if it doesn't work you can modify . You need to know what works for your body and your self control...You are doing great!!
