NSV for me tonight. Got in my 4runner to leave my daughter's house after getting to visit with my grandson for a few hours I realized I had a very flat tire. Changed it by myself with son-in-law helping me pull it up online so I could see the process and he held the flashlight. You would think at 46 I should know how to do this by now but life changes and we either roll with it or get left behind! Learning to be independent and capable and learning new skills! Onward we go!!

That reminds me of a memory of my father. When I was 16, he would not sign off on my driver’s license until I had changed a tire, changed the oil, gapped a spark plug, drove a stick shift and identified all the components under the hood. I can remember flipping my “oh so perfect Farrah Fawcett” hair and whining “But Dad, that’s what boyfriends are for!” 😂 His insistence that I learn those skills stood me in good stead a few years later when I was in college, scraping nickels together to pay the rent; and I was able to save money by changing my own oil. 🥰

Karen, Our fathers must've been from same era. My dad was same way...he made us learn all essential things regarding car before he allowed us to drive..

karen40.poole, Your dad sounds like my dad. He was determined to make me self reliant. It started even before my car - with my dirt bike when I was 14. I could almost take it apart and put it back together. I think we had great dad's.

Good for you! I’ve changed it for a date. No surprise, it didn’t go anywhere.
