Found this article yesterday and thought some people here might appreciate it. We are all prone to logical fallacies especially when they tell us an easier way to get through our struggles.

Loving yourself doesn't just mean being happy in the body you're in. It means taking the best care of it that you can. We know obesity will eventually cause a multitude of health issues. The people shouting they're fine and healthy now should always have fine print under their assertions: "for now." We are not doomed to a life of disease and eventual disability. Our bodies and their shapes and sizes are within our control. The article is a really nice perspective from someone who broke free of this logic. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/jan/05/truth-obesity-five-fat-myths-debunked Everyone should love themselves today ❤️

Great read. All those people who claim to eat 1000cal and not lose weight…always wanted to call BS on that. Underestimating intake is huge. Also, although right now I am the ideal weight for a male of my height my mom asks if I’m too skinny…nope.

HK3 I feel like the look of a person with a healthy weight has been totally lost in the past decade. I'm glad we're not in the heroin chic phase of women's fashion anymore but when I go shopping now the stores are often out of stock of my size (6-8US) and often down even stock 4 and under. Noones called me too skinny for the most part because I'm tall and broad hipped but my husband's gotten comments mostly from his mom.

Lydium I'm more of a fan of free tools or common sense diet changes. Subscriptions can be helpful for people but it's a myth you need to spend more money to start on a healthy lifestyle or lose weight. A lot of people cite the diet industries profits as a reason they should avoid dieting but they overlook the massive profits of the hyper palatable foods industry (which dwarfs the likes of nutrisystem and weight watchers).

A lot of us on here are living, walking, breathing, examples of this. I spent over 20 years "trying to love myself as I was" and living such an unhappy and unhealthy lifestyle. Now I can move, I can do things I was never able to before, I can actually participate in life without too many hindrances. I wholeheartedly agree with you... Body positive messages can be harmful if one believes they're "healthy" no matter what size they are. Body positivity poisoned me both mentally and physically for years, Loving who I was, who I am, and who I want to be as person is what made the difference for me! Just my perspective.

It's a strange thing. I'm at my happiest when I'm moving a lot. Pretty simple even though it's sometimes a challenge to find the time to do it. Embrace life.

Mimi I really appreciate your perspective and you're story about getting back into softball! I felt much the same. I didn't hate my body at 200 lbs having a big bum was actually kind of fun sometimes but my beloved activities were harder and harder. I wish I had taken my weight more seriously at 185 and didn't get all the way up to where I was. Finding self love is often a whole journey in itself. Im so happy for your progress.

bdixon, thanks love. I think that's the issue with some people, (especially in the other ongoing conversation), some equate body positivity to self love. And honestly I believe they are two entirely different things. You can love yourself for who you are and desire to improve yourself in many areas. I think thats what people are struggling with on the other post. But Im not getting involved with that one kuz of the way rude way some are responding.

You knwo a lot of our culture and media industry feeds off of peoples problems its skewed to make you feel that you need their service, their product, that membership, and a lot of premade food is designed to keep you consuming and eating. You need to tune out of all of it, and feel your body and nourish it properly with healthy options. Healthy options and whole foods are delicious once you wean yourself off the starchy sugars and soy alternatives that are screwing up your tastebuds and making you over eat.
