redgirl1974's Journal, 17 Dec 10

I am getting ready for my weekend of baking and just wanted to check in for some moral support. I had planned to not do any of that, but when Jay (thats my oldest who is coming home today) called on Wednesday, he asked me if we could bake cookies for Santa like we used to when he was little. Now, here's the catch, he is almost grown up, but he asked me in a voice that reminded me of him at 5 years old. ( getting teary here!). " Mommy can we bake cookies for Santa?" that what I imagined in my head. I really miss those years, when they were little and wanted to hold my hand when we would go anywhere. Now I am lucky when they actually want to spend time with me. Soon Jay will grow up, and has decided to go to the Army and Michael will finish High School and go to college, and it will be just me and Sergio because his boys are the same age as mine and they will be gone too.. Ok, got off the subject for a moment, but just wanted to explain why I am so looking forward to baking cookies with all the boys. Its going to be a good week. I am grateful for the gifts that we are able to provide this year, realizing not every one is as fortunate.Glad we both have good jobs, when so many out there don't.Thankful for the time we can all spend together, even if it is baking cookies I can't eat. :)

Oh, Redgirl, I am so with you on the boys. My youngest just moved out, and it is now just Dan and I...which is good, but I sure miss my boys. I am baking this weekend also and making candies....chocolate covered mini oreos (white, milk, and dark chocolate covered), fudge, peanut brittle....all the good stuff. I do love to bake and make all the goodies for Christmas. Need to go and pick up some eggs, karo syrup, and evaporated milk today. Gonna be a fun weekend!

Made some chocolate mousse for my son's friend's birthday yesterday (at school)...so I was making about 2 dozen little ones in cupcake holders...well, I must have breathed in the sugar while mixing...cause about 5 min's afterwards...I was sick as a dog! Head spinning, nauseous, ...it was crazy...'course I had not eaten yet, it was at about 6:00AM ...and then I couldn't eat for hours. Just felt like if I moved to fast it was all gonna be too much! Stayed on the couch for awhile - and felt back to normal around 1:00pm. Never had that happen before.... I am guessing it was the sugar - my son told me you can breath it in through your lungs and ingest it into your blood stream!! Who knew???

Thanks Steph and Cindy! Glad to hear someone else will be baking this weekend. Just got to be sure to not inhale any sugar fumes !! Might pass out and then the boys will eat the dough raw!! They'd probably love that!

Have fun with your baking, its great that he wants to do that, they are always running off at that age! I wish they would be all young and cuddly like before, those were the days :) Mine are enroute, and I have a prime rib for dinner. My son already made plans to see his best girlfriend for coffee after dinner (I saw it on facebook) but he said "mom, I will spend the afternoon with you all the way until then" If I know my daughter, she will be out the door right behind him. Oh well, I go to bed at 8 anyway. lol

FF, Jay is brining a friend home this time, so they wont be out the door. If I know my boy , he'll want to hang out inside, at least for the first day or two. Then he get restless and out the door. At least I have Michael. He still likes to crawl in my bed and watch old movies with me. When he does that it reminds me of when he was 5 years old. He was so adorable. He still is, but the facial hair kinda throws me off! lol.

You could clean your teeth a lot while baking - nothing tastes good with toothpaste LOL. How awesome that you can spend time with him!
