Big Boy Optimus's Journal, 05 Nov 16

I don't usually count my calories on a Saturday but I wanted to experiment somewhat so I decided to keep my 16:8 rule and only ate after midday.

I bought freshly made scones to have at midday with a cup of coffee which is so perfect for this cold and rainy weather BUT then I decided that I want to keep carbs at a moderate intake today so I made a chicken stir fry using McCain Asian Stir Fry which is just 5g carb and 40 calories per 100g :)

After that bowl full of food I'm telling my mind that I must forget that it's Saturday and not pig out like I usually do and I will just enjoy my Sunday without any restrictions. Now try telling your mind that when your mom is making sweet sugary gulab jamin!!! Ah another temptation to derail my experiment today but all I had to do was tell my mind that I can eat as many as I want tomorrow and today is all about trying to make a difference to my usual Saturdays. Luckily I have no events to attend so its much easier to stay on track when at home.

Maybe I can keep today as an under 600 Calories fast day! Calorie intake so far for today is 532 Calories. I honestly have no appetite but will eat some oats and maybe some yoghurt later. Worse case scenario I'll try not to exceed 1000 calories for today. I love challenging myself.

Have a good weekend everyone!

I must say, counting weekend calories for the first time myself. It is a surprisingly humbling experience.

I do not think eating 600 calories is healthy. Eating at least a 1000 on a fasting day is good. I also intermittent fast and it does not work if you do not fuel your body.

especially if you are working out, your body needs to replenish as long as you eat below maintenance calories you will lose weight. Do not starve yourself.

Mati I guess you are confusing "fast" day of Intermittent Fasting is different to that of 5:2 but both combine really well together. I do as much as 40 hour fasts with no food consumption. I've lost 32.5kg already. I would do heavy lifting gym session without consuming food for about 38 hours and my strength increased, my muscle mass increased and my body fat decreased. In terms of 16:8 Intermittent Fasting, everyday is a "fast day" with the 16 hours of no food and 8 hours window of eating food. In 5:2(I actually do 4:3) you have "fast" days of 500/600 calories maximum on 2 o 3 non-consecutive days in a week. The health benefits are tremendous. You actually create more Growth Hormone production by this type of fasting. I have excess bodyfat which is actually stored food. For me to make my body switch to burning fat for energy I need to give my body very less calories so that it has no choice but to use up what it has been given from food as its primary energy source then switch to using up body fat for its energy needs.
