Yesterday I took a drive to Hibberdene which is about 100km south of Durban on the coast. As I drove on the N2 just after the Shell Ultra City South Coast I came across locals from the area hat set up stalls on the side of the road and selling fresh Avocado's, Mangoes(those huge ones), green banana, etc.
I stopped and purchased a sack of 5 nice sized avocado's for R25 :) And The mangoes were R30 a sack of 3. You can't get fresher or more organic than that! Fruit that was cut off the trees and sold directly to you so they were not put into any cold storage and transported around before getting into your hands. With the drought hitting so hard, the prices on avo's have sky-rocketed so I'm happy to find them at this price.
The mangoe's were absolutely divine! I usually buy them at Foodlover's Market but the difference in taste and texture were very evident! Can't wait to try the avo's on Thursday.
I'm going back down that way on Wednesday so I'm going to buy more fresh fruit and veggies from the local vendors :D
