Big Boy Optimus's Journal, 25 Feb 16

Here's a summary and my weekly breakdown of my method of weight loss :

Mon : Fast Day(23 calories max)

Tues : Low Carb Non-Fast Day(75% of my RDI which is 2000 calories max). Carbs kept to under 50g

Wed : Fast Day(23 calories max)

Thurs : Non-Fast Day(no restrictions)

Fri : Fast Day(23 calories max)

Sat : Non-Fast Day(no restrictions)

Sun : Non-Fast Day(no restrictions)

I follow the 4:3 Fast Diet(same thing as the 5:2 Fast Diet but 3 fasting days instead of 2). My fast days started with a 600 calorie maximum and then later I found I could manage to do no-food fasting and keep my calories to 23 calories from 1 cup of green tea and then 1 cup of nescafe classic coffee(no sugar and 15ml milk) consumed at lunchtime and at dinner.

I also follow the rules of 16:8 Intermittent Fasting whereby I only consume food in an 8 hour window from midday to 8pm on non-fast days. This means I don't have breakfast but I do drink a cup of green tea and water from the time I wake up until midday. Sometimes I stop eating at 10pm.

On all my non-fast days I aim to consume the following grams of protein, fat, carbs as a daily minimum :
Protein - 1.8 x my bodyweight(in kg)
Fat - 1 x my bodyweight(in kg)
Carbs - only restricted on low carb days to under 50g

I do my official weigh-ins on Thursday mornings because it gives me enough time to digest whatever food I've consumed over the weekend and it keeps my scale readings consistent. I still weigh everyday and the scale fluctuates up and down due to amounts of food and water I have in me.

The above method allows me to indulge on my weekends and still lose fat/weight on a weekly basis.

There are various ways to customize this method to suit you and that is important as you can't follow a method of weight/fat loss if its not sustainable for you. One of the ways to tweak this would be to also make Thursdays as a Low Carb Non-Fast Day. I will do that at a later stage.

I sometimes break my fast on Fridays at dinner time if I'm socializing but I found that it still helps because I achieved a 24hour fast from Thursday' dinner time to Friday's dinner time. I've consumed 1300 calories on a Friday night and still achieved weight loss so Friday's can offer some flexibility.

I have a workout at the gym at least twice a week. On a good week I go to the gym 4 times but on average its about 2 to 3 times a week. Gyming is only 10% of the work. Food consumption is 90% of the work. I lost my 1st 10kg without any workouts at the gym as I was testing this theory of being able to lose weight/fat just by focusing on food consumption. I state this because I don't want anyone thinking they can't lose weight/fat if they cant go to a gym. The rate of weight/fat loss is greater when one does have physical activity such as going to workout at a gym but you can start building your confidence by losing weight just by focusing on you eating.

I would love somebody to follow the above and tell me if it works for them as well. I don't mind discussing possible tweaks to customize the above to suit you.

Yesterday i did under 500 calories and it was so tough. I will have to change my mindset completely to achieve under 23 calories. Thank you for the breakdown Optimus!

Have u guys/girls seen me before I lost weight ? If somebody told me to consume a maximum of 23 calories a day I would also tell that person that is too difficult to do. I never even planned on doing it as I was happy settling into 600 calories for my Fast Days. Eventually I found myself adapting and could push my 1st meal for the day from midday to 2pm, then to 3pm then to 4pm then to 5pm then to 6pm and eventually I chose to just have a cup of coffee for dinner and sleep and I told myself I won't die but I'm going to eat tons tomorrow when I get up. Suprisingly, when I get up the next morning, my hunger is gone as if my body fed on its fat over the night. lol. I actually go 40 hours without food and I also workout at the gym in that fasted state after 38 hours of no food. Kimmy it takes time to get there. As you will see in my journal I started by making small changes and each week I adjusted to a small change. You can eat your bread, just not everyday :) FatGirl2Fit you must read my journal and get some tips and ideas on how to eat tons of food for 500 calories. Don't rush to get to extremely low calorie fasting. Choose to make meals from low calorie but high volume foods like cabbage, butternut, beetroot, cucumber, lettuce, brinjal, tomato, etc. Some people prefer to keep their 500 calories for 1 big meal rather than split them up into 2 or 3 meals. You will get accustomed to various foods and their calories in time and then it will be much easier to do. Tanya49 it's actually extremely good for you as you get to repair the body, regenerate brain cells, strengthen your immune system, release more growth hormone, etc. There's been a number of medical studies done and the benefits are mindblowing. People have found that their body healed from various illnesses that medicine couldn't treat by following a fasting lifestyle. Offcourse the commercialism of medicine and the fat loss industry will not want everyone to start fasting because then they will lose revenue from the products they are selling to remedy such issues. I'm living proof that following a no-food fasting is good for you as my health has changed dramatically for the better over this last 10 months. There's tons of forums and groups on facebook where people all around the world who follow such fasting methods are discussing their success and better health because of it.

I have been having a look at your food choices and it helps a lot. I have to agree, changing diet does change your overall health. Cutting out processed foods and following a low carb diet has almost eliminated my asthma (also a cancer survivor and I was that sick kid in school). From cortisone twice a day to none at all.

Well done on those achievements FG2F :D

thanks again BBO for the advice. My one change I am trying to make this week is cutting my coffee down to 1 cup a day coz I cant handle the taste of black coffee. So I have decided if I am not prepared to drink black coffee then I am going to limit myself to 1 cup a day and the rest of the day just water.

Fatgirl2fit - what an incredible testimony. I hear about these frequently from people doing low carb and have quite a few of my own. Congrats on making it through your fast day. Please do the 500 calories for a longgggg time before progressing to liquid only days. It really is more of a mental than a physical switch and that can take quite a while to master. Have a great weekend everybody!

Kimmy coffee is a good appetite suppressant. I used to have 1 to 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1/4 cup of milk in my coffee. Each week I switched to canderal sweetener tablets and used 2 per cup then every 2 weeks I reduced by half a tablet until I could enjoy a cup of coffee without any sweetener at all. With the milk I cut it down to 15ml and also reduced the amount of coffee per cup until I found just the right ratio of coffee with 15ml milk and boiled water that tastes good to me. You will be amazed at how your tastebuds can adapt and give you a new enjoyable cup of coffee that might not taste good to somebody who drinks sugar in their coffee. Listen to LowCarbFemmeFit everyone, she is a wealth of knowledge and she is the one that made me consider giving the no-food fasting a go and I have not looked back since taking her advice :)

Im going to give it a try. 3 weeks ago i used to have 3 sugars in my coffee so i decided to try 2 which was an adjustment. I have tried sweetners but they taste horrible except for xilotyl but if i use that it upsets my stomach. Im going to try drop down to one sugar next week and see how it goes

Kimmy reduce by half a spoon at a time do that you don't feel a major difference in the taste and sweetness of the coffee. Going full spoon lower each week might just put u off if the coffee becomes too bitter but if you can manage it, u go girl!
