Quick question.....
Is dried fruit a healthy snack option?
When I have a bad day, I used to indulge in oily takeaways. Now I want to replace it with dried fruit as a go-to snack, but find mixed reports of it being high in calaries and sugar, thus not healthy. Obviously fresh fruit is the best, but as an alternative?

Dried fruit is healthy but it’s easy to eat too much of it. If you can control your intake, it’s a good snack.

Hi, dried fruit is full of sugar. Rather do unsalted nuts. Put this question into google. I'm a snacker trying to get away from it but if I could snack everyday it would be double cream yoghurt with fresh fruit. Calories are abit high with the yogurt but for me that is a better option that what im used to.

Thanks for the feedback. I am really trying to snack healthy. I enjoy unsalted nuts, but its expensive. The grocer I biy my fresh produce at has naturally dried fruits, without all the added suger and preservatives. But wasn't sure if it was a better option. Though, I suppose anything is healthier than 'slap tjips'. 😂

Once you get the keto constipation, you’ll beg for the fibre and other good things in dried prunes and peaches, but to each their own. There’s a fad diet and a food religion around every corner.

If you're doing Keto, they are high sugar so I don't know how the keto-peeps do it, I am not doing keto. If you're just sticking to specific macros, give them a try and see how they work for you. Every body is different. Do they keep you fuller for longer? Are they perhaps a good crutch that gets you from unhealthy snacking to healthier options? Do they work better if you combine them with a glass of water (so the water is absorbed by their fibre and they expand and fill you up? Is your perfect snack a few dried peaches and some tea? Do you overeat on them? If you keep losing weight and they help you to build better habits, they're great. If not, try something else.

Better to eat the whole fruit.

A good way I learned about is to think about caloric density and sugar. Dried fruit is high is sugar and low in water. Water is a big factor in caloric density. Example, eating 100g of grapes is around 75cal while eating 100g raisens is 300cal. And since there is no water in the fruit the 100g grapes is not that filling. So if you eat a bit of nuts and raisens you thinm you snacked healthy but you smashed 600cals. Eating whole grapes or three cups of watermelon turns out to be much more 'filling'. So to avoid sugars and feel full-er, eat the mango, apple, pear, watermelon or grapes rather that the dried alternative.
