Today's meal: Quite a bit chicken served with baked sweet potato and stir fried greens coated in a spicy peanut sauce; roast vegetables, tomatoes and mixed salad. No dessert really, but made vanilla turmeric chai tea to close it off (I'm a little obsessed with this at the moment).

It's been a hectic week. Hiked up Table Mountain for the first time last week Saturday, and it got me hard - my whole body was in pain up and until yesterday. I somehow managed to get all my workouts in, even though they probably weren't as intense as usual. Proud of myself for sticking to it, though. 💪

I also had some personal epiphanies with regards to the way I view food. I realized that sometimes I still view food in a "diet mentality" instead of treating it as a lifestyle. As such, I'm trying to be more conscious of the way I view my meals. While losing weight, I followed a more low carb approach (though what I feel what really helped was IF/OMAD), because of that, I'm still iffy about carbs. Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against low carb/keto/etc, it worked for me to an extent and I'm forever grateful for that.

I just feel that right now, I (personally) need to stop seeing food/my meals as a break down of carbs, fats, and protein. I want to pick my foods for more than just maintaining weight, but for health, vitality, and longevity. I've found it so hard to shift my mindset from eating for weight loss to eating for health, because my weight has been such an issue for me for most of my life. It's funny how the journey never really ends, the scenery just changes.

Anyway, excuse this long babbling post! Have an awesome weekend everyone!! 😊

The 2 aren't mutually exclusive, thankfully. After keto I also cautiously approached carbs and found those that seem to work for my. I love that you mention lifestyle and threw out the "diet mentality."

@ThreeOh8 - I think, for me, it's the fear that since I lost weight by avoiding carbs (in part), adding them back would reverse the progress. But I'm slowly working through that fear, though, and ditching the diet mentality has helped with that.

I with escapistArt and ThreeOh8... I also started my journey with Keto, so low, rather very low carb. Struggled tremendously with constipation, and therefore realize that I need carbs which carry the fiber I need. So I have my carbs with caution, when I say caution, I eat the healthier version through fruits and other carbs like quinoa, whole grain bread etc, which I was deadly afraid of because I also thought because my weight loss happened without them I should stay away from them. I see myself rather working at balance which starts in the mind, eating something because of the nutritional value it adds to my body... love this journey, just so much too learn about oneself... thanks for the insightful share...

@MariaManoto, This is exactly me! I can't tell you how I afraid I was to add sweet potatoes back to my diet, even though they are an awesome, nutritious food. Now I'm trying to go for a more whole food (mostly plant based) approach which I feel is more sustainable for my needs. Not thinking of foods as only carbs and fats, but rather in terms of how good they are for me. And I'm loving it!!!
