The war with my weight has been lost and won in many battles over the years. I have been overweight since I was 6 years old - That is 80% of my lifetime on this earth. I have tried every diet (which I know is the oldest cliche). At 12 I was placed on my first diet where the dietitian told me to "get used to the hungry feeling". Even at 12 I knew that this adage was wrong. At 16 I was diagnosed with PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) which resulted in an Insulin Resistance (Pre-Diabetes). I was placed on the pill and Metformin. This stabilised the disorder and my body started to adjust and I was able to drop a little weight.

At 30 I met my now husband, Mark. He has shown me what a real, meaningful and loving relationship is. We both gained some weight over the two years that we have been together. He has supported every one of my weight loss endeavours and palated every chicken breast and veg meal we had. I continued to exercise a few times a week and eat well. Despite all my efforts I still gained weight. In September 2016 we decided to emigrate. We got engaged and married (no white wedding) in the space of 3 months. I was 120kgs at our engagement party, my highest weight of all time. He left for the UK in September and I continued to eat clean and exercise hard however my weight shifted very, very, very slightly. This is because, in December 2017, my insulin levels were sitting at 32. It was time to take action or I wouldn't see 35 years old.

I participated in the Renewal Institute Slender Challenge and lost a whopping 19.4kgs in 3 months. It has brought me halfway to my weight loss goal. I plan on losing the last 25kgs slowly and steadily.
